It all depends on what you want to do with it. If it's the occassional drag strip car, a hundred dollar set of drag bags and a some dr's i think are the best bang for the buck. I picked up two used stock 17's for a hundred bucks and had some nt05r's mounted on them. I don't know the smog laws in NC but i think you can get away with lt's which are a nice power increase for the money and there's always the SVEDE intake.

Because its sloppier than a drunk college girl, shifter should be your first upgrade it was mine. After that it depends, for a dd id do full exhaust and a svede intake. Then it all depends on how extreme you want to get.

Oh I love my HIDs and VX tails, highly recoommend both!

Edit: good lookin car but id lose the front bra. Check to see if your FRCs are rubbing on the fuel line, and see if the BCM wires are rubbing behind the glovebox before you have electrical problems. Id join ls1gto.com as well if you havent yet.

Ya i went with the mgw-p because its the cheapest of the good shifters for these cars. Search shifter on the other board and just start sifting through the threads lots of info over there.

yea i just looked at a page that told me the differences between the mgw-p, billet pro, and gmm. looking at the mgw website, im confused on how to buy or see anything for gto. seeing as they are custom made im sure i have to buy direct from them. how do i go about this?

Good find - had an '04 myself.

Go find a set of 05-06 Brakes and Install immediately. The '04's are terrible.

I installed a G5X3, 243 heads and headers on mine at 1500 miles, then sold it a few months later to buy a CTS-V. The GTO was a much better driving car.

I would also steer you away from a rowdy cam, the heavy GTO will do better with a less peaky torque focused grind.

MGW doesnt actually make a shifter for these cars. Proxes on ls1gto modifies them for our cars, thats why we call it an MGW-P. Search that screen name and youll find his thread and ordering info. Great customer service. My wait time was about a month but I think hes cut it down some, and totally worth it. Shows you how popular they are!

thanks jrob. figured it out and ill be ordering one soon
oranges, i havnt had any clutch slippage problems, but i think i may need to bleed the fluid. the clutch is never the same when i get in the car. some times it lets out right at the beginning, other times all the way at the end. i think i may have air in the line.

very nice car...start looking for good tuners in your area...look into a cai...as far as shifter goes i have the lou's short stick which is a less expensive route to make shifting less sloppy...look into corsa exhaust my personal favorite...maybe new wheels down the road tsw's are popular! always look in the parts for sale section over at ls1gto...ooo and a radar detector if you like to drive your car like i do!

haha. i keep the o speed set on 80 and some times let out. haha. radar detector might not be a bad idea. i havnt researched corsa exhaust too much. i been looking at slp and borla. when i get some extra cash i might go where my cousin got his 96 ss single turbo tuned to see what they could do with me.

good looking car and congrats on the new ride

I will also add to what most have said..

good air intake :
SVEDE intake or Cold Air Inductions would be my suggestion

Shifter :
GMM or MGW-P.. I have used the GMM in many cars and always been please. I've recently read a lot on the MGW-P so I can only based my suggestion of others positive feedback.

Drag Bags :
good route to take in resolving some of the known wheel hop and adding drag radials helps greatly as well

Long Tubes :
Kooks, ARH or Dynatech would be my suggestions along with some new plugs and wires.

Dyno Tune :

Suspension:
These cars handle poorly and there is just about every component made to make these cars handle amazingly well. Pedders, Whiteline, Koni, & King springs are some of the big names in the suspension market for us GTO owners.

good luck modding and if you ever need anything feel free to contact me

Just bought an '04 GTO M6 about a month ago too. It had 65k on it. Pretty clean but needs some tuning. It has headers and no cats and I am not sure if it has an aftermarket cam or not. It won't shift at WOT and I am hearing that the clutch master cylinder is too small on these cars. The idle and inability to run smooth under 2k (bucking in 6th gear at 65mph) is a problem as well but I can't find a vacuum leak and I am pretty sure that the cats being gone are the cause of the DTCs. Any advice on where to go next? Does it need the cats to run good? I found a couple tuners but I don't want to find anyting else wrong yet and haven't taken it.

Good looking car! I just recently picked up an 04 GTO as well after messing around for years with F-bodies and a few C5 vettes. Like the GTO better than all the other LS1 cars I've had (including the C5)!

My MGW-P shifter recently arrived and I'm looking forward to gettting it installed.

My 99 M6 C5 in a TSP 228R and that was a nice cam that I was happy with.
My 2000 Formula at one point had a TSP torquer V2 and that was wilder, but the car was also setup for it. I can't wait to start modding the GTO.

This time around I'm contemplating forced induction.....

Oh, and yes it runs like hell when I can get it in the next gear and over 2k. I don't get to the track much but seem to find someone to play with everytime I drive it and have walked off from everyone so far from an '05 or newer vette, a couple mustangs, and a Lightning.
