Default couple of gto questions

First off I dont own a gto , but my neighbor does so I am posting on his behalf. About a week ago we made a 5 hour trip to Dallas to trade in his 08 denalitruck for this 04 gto. Car has 69k miles on it. Its a 6 speed with black exterior/ interior, kenwood cd player with all infinity speakers, kooks long tubes,magnaflowcat-back, comp cam, pushrods, and springs ,and a k&n fipk intake. Underneath it looks to have a ton of suspension upgrades front and rear as far as shocks, struts, and bushings go all from a company called "pedders"? I dunno if thats good company because ive never heard of it.

Anyway, on to my questions. First off is upon inspecting underneath, I noticed that the driveshaft looks like it wouldnt support any kind of abuse because it looks to be a 2"-3" unit. Whats are you guys upgrading that to? Secondly, how strong is the rear end in these cars being that they are independant? My experiance with 03-04 cobras is that once you hit the 600 rwhp mark it doesnt take much to break it. Lastly is the transmission. How much will it handle before going to an early grave? I will say that I bleed ford, but I totally respect the Ls cars. I have a 10 sec '02 lightning that I drive daily, and a mid 10 sec 88 mustang in the garage. What im really getting at here is we are going to make 10 sec power in the future, and was curious as to how hard is it to put it to the ground without breaking parts?

Thanks , and I would appreciate all input.

pedders is a good company.

The Driveshaft Shop or gforce1320 or BMR have stronger 1 piece driveshafts

and ya, the rearends will see failure around 500+. most of the time as a result of wheelhop so pick up a set of dragbags from BMR

also look into a Harrop rear differencial cover.

Sounds like a pretty well put together car.

If you plan on drag racing, at 500+whp...
SFI Bellhousing
SFI Steel Flywheel
Upgraded Tranny
1 Piece DS (Gforce Engineering, BMR, Driveshaft Shop)
Upgraded stubs/axles.

After that, you should be good to take some abuse. The actual rear end on these cars is pretty strong, its just EVERY other piece in the driveline that needs beefed up LOL.

If you don't beef up the stubs/axles, make sure to get some bias ply slicks to keep them alive. They'll absorb alot of the shock, aswell as preventing wheel hop.

FWIW, mine is at 460whp, and is 100% stock driveline. Minus the clutch/flywheel. 150 passes, and only broken anything with wheelhop.

For driveline parts, can't go wrong with Gforce1320. The weak points are CV joints (half shafts), inner axle stubs, and driveshaft. Oh yeah and the clutch. Monster Clutch is the one to check out.

in my experience the trans and rear can take a good amount of power........ the D/S should be replaced and so should the half shafts and inner stubs..... most rear end failures are cause by wheel hop or not replacing half shafts and inner stubs......

im at 525rwhp on the original rear end and trans at 103,xxx miles

as long as you don't make pulls in 5 and 6 your good to go on trans ways....stay way from power shifting and you'll be fine
