If I didn't know any better I would say that is my car!! Looks good man. Are they even when they light up? Had to buff mine out a little to get them even. Recently took them off though due to dumb inspection!

Cool. I masked off the turn signal and backup light on the first 2 coats of VHT. Unpealed it and laid the last coat over the whole assembly. 3 coats of clear later and this is what looks like. As you can tell from the picture, I did this over 6 years ago and it still looks as good as the day I did it.

and as long as you can still see the tail lights when they are lit up good enough, it shouldnt be a problem

Nah to that one^...My lights had the film tint on them when I bought the car, you could still see red through them but DE inspection lanes have been complete douche holes as long as I could remember. I had to put my LT1 T/A through there...8 TIMES! It was barely failing the sniffer test and they wouldn't let me go.

"Smoked"? Haha those look dark as hell! They look good though. I was thinking about doing this myself but instead I just bought some'06 tails. They should be getting here in about a week. Merry Christmas to me! Who knows...I may still do this to my red ones just for the hell of it. And my buddy is selling me his VX tails sometime in the fall for cheap so I'll have 3 sets of tails. If I ever get bored with how my car looks I'll have some quick and easy options to change it.
