A converter was one of my first mods. It is definitely worth doing. I would read up on the subject then once you decide on a company give them a call and discuss what will work best for your application

running a 2800 Vigilante myself. It's not too much for daily use and works sufficient for occassional drag strip fun.

Definitely look into purchasing an aftermarket converter. You will be asking yourself why you didnt do it sooner once you drive it for the first time after the install!
