Default 2004 gto fan is staying on when cars off?

Posting this for a friend. He has a stock 2004 gto with under 60k miles. Here is what he messaged me

Had a problem w/my high speed fan relay few months back (the fan would stay on after the car was off but when I took it out the fan would shut down so I replaced the high speed relay. Had no problems for a month. Then I turn the gto off today and the high speed fan was stayin on. I popped the hood and took the relay out and it still stayed on. I even took out the low speed relay and it still wouldn't go off. So today I changed the coolant temperature sensor in hopes that it would help. But no the fan still stays on after the car is off

Any suggestions or ideas guys? I really have no idea what to tell him as i have no idea about the cooling systems on these cars

Thanks guys!!

look at the stickies above about wiring rubbing in behind the glovebox. seems like it has to be a wiring problem to me if he pulled the correct relay and the fan stayed on.

I would assume that if there were a connection to heat he would have pointed it out... stock tune has an allowance to keep the fans running after the car is turned off if coolant temps are above a certain level. Although the car would do its best to keep coolant temps below that threshold while it was running (it's really high, like 284 if I recall), it could still be related. I set that temp to something artificially low to keep the fans on when I'm at the strip.

open relay panel under hood, tap on the fan relay, they get stuck sometimes.

How long will it run for? The fans run even after you shut down if the engine reaches a certain temp, then it shuts down.

Tap on the fan relay. Mine got stuck open, tapped it a few times and it stopped doing it.
