Default My friends want to race!

So my friend just sold his 2000 Mustang Gt with cold air intake, cat back exhaust, and a throttle body for a 2008 Mustang GT/CS with a cold air intake and tune. I raced his 2000 Gt and completely destroyed it, my friends v6 firebird with headers and ram air killed it too, but I was wondering how my 04 A4 GTO with Long Tube Headers and Cat back exhaust would fair against his new mustang. We will probably race a couple times from a stop and a roll. What do you all think the outcome will be assuming we both Drive perfectly, his mustang is a 5 speed btw.

if he is stock you will win. Once he get a cai/tune and some exhaust work he might give ya a run though.

youre faster. he might hook better but you should run him down. a stall with sticky tires would make him cry.

from a roll you should with not much effort.

a tune is a 20+whp gain on those cars. They run 18* WOT timing from the factory (tuned for 87 octane) and I ran 31* on mine on 93. I ran a 12.9@107 in decent air with intake/tune/offroad x and street tires.

It will be a close race. I owned a 2006 Mustang GT with intake, tune, mild cams, UDP and 4.10s and I was able to run neck and neck with an 06 GTO that had a tune at the strip. Both of us had sticky tires.

That's a lot of work to just keep up with an 06 with a tune

True but you have to figure that a stock mustang will be putting down about 100 less hp. Even with my mods I was putting down 320-325 hp/ 319 tq and the GTO was probably putting down close to 375.

^ hey, its 3vs197 from s197 forum. Yea mine with nsr cams, full bolt ons and 4.10's ran a 12.60@110 with 330/319. 1.73 short time on street tires. Like I said, car looked and sounded good but would take an awful lot to take down an LS2 GTO.

That's not me but I know who you are talking about. I myself didn't believe he cut a 1.73 60' on Firestones. I agree that it does take a lot to take down an LS2 but stock for stock they about even with an LS1.
Sadly my Mustang never got into the 12s. Best time was 13.185 at 103.99 and that's with a 1.7XX 60' on both E.T streets and M&H

Now that we are perfectly clear on whats racing what, the GTO with LT's will win hands down. Now if it were a new 5.0 it would be a totally different story. Run him and post up how it goes. My guess is 3-4 cars from any type of race he wants.

I think it will be a drivers race. Stock for stock an 04 GTO and 05-10 Mustang GT should be fairly even. Both run about mid 13s stock. L/T should be good for about 15-20 hp but an intake and tune will be good for at least 25 hp on the mustang.

So your saying they are even stock for stock, and that the cai is a bigger power gain on the mustang than the LT's are on the GTO? Seems a bit off to me. I can agree to disagree until he actually runs him and lets us know though.

CAI and tune is a decent gain for the mustang. My mustang with just a UDP dynoed around 275-280/ 280/285 depending the dyno. With a CAI and tune it dynoed 298/309. Just a CAI on a mustang will net an almost 0 gain. In fact only a few CAIs can be used without a tune.

lol people still don't believe I ran a 1.73 short time with Fuzions. Not my average by any means but I did it. I averaged probably a 1.80ish. And yes a tune on a 05+ GT is huge. Headers aren't worth **** on those cars though. I was able to give my 05 12 more *'s of timing on pump gas, huge SOTP difference. But I gotta give it to the LS car with LT's though.

^I thought in your last post that you were implying that I was 3vs197. Both 3vs197 and V8EATER are familiar screen names at S197forum. I am the one who totaled the mustang at the track
