Default 2004 Magnacharged GTO

I work with a guy that just bought a 2004 Magnacharged GTO.

5.7L
Cam
Headers
CAI
Tuned by Vengeance Racing
6psi Boost
Water Intercooler

Intake temps are running at 180 degrees.

I am sure this is common and figured someone could throw me a few quick suggestions.

Here is what I was thinking, but wanted to see if there was more he could do.

Vararam Intake
New grill inserts that eliminate the mesh, the open ones.

I suggested to him moving the battery to the trunk, and making a larger reservoir for the intercooler? The Magnacharger one is just a little small plastic one. I know more volume would help lower the temp.

Could there be a problem with the supercharger causing it to be such high intake temperatures? He bought the car used. What kind of maintenance is required for the supercharger?

Its allot of questions, but ive been a member here long enough to know someone will give me some good answers.

I do not know much, but have a 160 stat helps very much. Also have coated headers helps, my kooks make so much heat and when i lift my hood its like a heat wave. Have the intercooler infront of where the air hits it directly, in front the of grill or some air vents on the sides. Hope you find something!

First of all is it pullied, in other words is that a stock magnacharger pulley or is it smaller? The hendrix power chamber is highley recommended for maggie cars. 180* seams a little high to me.

180 seems high to me as well. I think the highest I have seen is in the 135 range. At only 6 lbs of boost I doubt it has had a pulley change.

What conditions are you seeing that high of temps and are you sure of the integrity and location of the IAT sensor? Was this just sitting in traffic? After a long run? Is it running just water? 50/50? Water wetter?

I doubt there is anything wrong with the charger causing it to heat up. The intercooler could be plugged but I dont really see how with so few miles. Is the pump flowing well, no kinks in any of the hoses?

As far as maintenace on maggies, they require an oil change every 6k miles from what I remember.

I'd check all the basics first before you start making any of the big changes you mentioned. And I would probably try a meth kit before much else.

The temperature is 180 when idling and 150 going down the highway, around town it hangs around 180, it has actually gotten as high as 215......

He bought the car used, the guy said it had 6k miles on the charger. What oil is used for the charger?

welcome to a magnacharged gto. a vey easy car to heat soak and a very hard car to find a good intake to pull cool air. your best bet is to change to the svede intake and their new style iat sensor which reacts to temp changes and cools quicker due to design.

pic of intake. found at westcoastspeed.com

next best intake would be the vararam. and i think matched with the iat sensor found on the same site above, could be just as good.

x2 The Coil packs and Painted Fast look great. Any OTR intake is better than a bend style.

402, where is your strut tower brace! Man you have a huge gap between the strut bumps on your strut tower, need new strut mounts?

Decided to take the hood off and see how the temp changed. Temperature is still in the 185-210 range with around town driving. Basically no difference.

Hendrix power chamber = waste of money, Arthur Guy lost HP switching from the stock air box setup to the power chamber, he has since switched to a svede and made it work with his TVS1900.

As 402 said, your friend with the manacharger needs a faster acting OMEGA IAT sensor, but it from west coast speed ($50), and a better intake because the factory location on the 04 for the IAT is terrible (right next to the HOT radiator).

My intake temps were 157* at times, just put my SVEDE OTRCAI on yesterday, and temps are down to 91* at idle and 75* cruising on the highway.

The SVEDE moves the IAT to behind the air intake, away from the radiator creating lower IAT temps, which pulls less timing and making the car faster.

@ 140* IAT temps, my car was pulling 10* of timing, making me loose about 25rwhp.. I can only imagine how much power your fried is loosing at 180*..
