Default Looking for a GTO

Getting sick and tired of getting pulled over in my bird (but not getting any tickets) and was considering switching over to a goat for a more sleeper daily driver. Which year of GTO came without hood scoops? 2004 only?

What's a good price for a 04 GTO 6 speed manual? lets say 60,000 + on it.
(Gonna stick an LSX in it eventually)

A few 2005's came without the hood scoops but yes it was the 2004 model that had no hood scoops.

If the sleeper look was wanted I would put the 2004 hood on a 2006. They worked out most of the bugs on the 2006 and it has the Ls2, plus 50 hp over the Ls1 in the 2004 model.

What bugs did the 04 model have?

The only real downside of an 04 apart from the smaller motor is the brakes.

If you do get one I would do an 05/06 conversion ASAP. Otherwise they all have the same problems like front radius rod and strut top bushing problems.

Don't really want to get into this only because as soon as one item is posted you will get someone stating that it didn't happen with their car. They all have some issues but for the most part the 2006's were taken care of from the factory.

If you want an 2004 model GTO then that is for you. I really like my 2006.

guess I better start looking for a 04 hood. Are the hoods fiberglass? or are there any fiberglass aftermarket ones?

Factory hoods are stamped steel. Where are you located? Hoods are around, the question is if you are local to them to save on shipping.

Most of the aftermarket hoods I have seen are the 05/06 style with hood scoops.

Yeah, 04s are the flat hood style along with the single exit exhaust...which is still a dual exhaust so don't be fooled. The nice thing with the 04s is the stock exhaust sounds REALLY good.

Down here the 04s with that range of mileage seem to be selling for 10-12k so expect to pay that much, lower mileage ones are going for even more.

Sign me up for 04s with 60k for 10k. I'd buy another one. That's a deal. I wouldn't sell my 68k cam only for 10. Haha. And I've ran better than a lot of ls1 gtos and some ls2s

I wish i could of found one for that cheap (10k). I was looking for a while and then finally bought my 04 GTO last month for $12,750 with 60,500 miles. That was the best deal around at the time. Ive never seen one that cheap lol not saying that theyre not out there. Prices can vary by area/state.

Shoot, I had a stock 04 hood too. Not anymore though. I'm sure if you found a GTO with the scoops you could easily find someone to swap hoods with you for a stock 04.

Paid $9,200 for my '04with 61,xxx and SAP parts. Deals are out there! Looked into another for my GF last month that was $12k with 46,xxx.
Each year has it's own advantages and disadvantages. I can't complain about my '04 at all. Bigger brakes are great, but I can't relly say that I would really benefit from them. If you're doing mostly street driving, which it sounds like you are, the '04 brakes will do you just fine. The 2 things I would like from an '06 are the lit steering wheel corntrols and door lock button. These 2 things can be added to an '04, but I don't care to go through the trouble. Other than that, I prefer my '04.

And if you're gonna put an LSX in in the future, the 18ci difference shouldn't matter.

The hood's with the hood scoops are a bit more desired. If you got an 05/06, you would have no trouble trading for a flat 04 hood. I decided on an ls2, just because the GTO is heavy, and likes the extra power. The car does pretty good with mild mods and I have no plans to do much besides cam/heads/nitrous. If you are putting an LSX in it, hell, get a cheap 04 with high mileage. Just make sure to take care of the suspension first. Got my '05 with 59k for $11.5k

id buy another 04 peronally. ive had 2 now. its a great car. the 05/06 hood would be nice but it wasnt a deal braker to me. i think a good price would be about 11-12k for decent shape 60k mile car. cheaper if you go higher in mileage and settle for an auto

i just bought one like a month ago. It had 56k and got it for $14500 out the door. I was doing internet shopping for about 5 months before getting mine and around my area they are really hard to find. Another thing i noticed while i was shopping around is that they have been going up in price a little bit say from like 8 months ago. Just saying, so that you are aware. There is another on my area that I checked about a week ago that is in really good shape with 54k on it. Im pretty sure you can get that one for 14k out the door. That one is well taken care of and has 4 brand new tires. Its a 04 in red with black interior. Automatic. PM and ill send you the dealer info if interested.

That still seems high, maybe its your area but for that money you could have a nice LS2 GTO or a FI LS1 GTO out here with comparable mileage
