Any reason the GTO block/pan doesn't use all the bolt holes?

Default Any reason the GTO block/pan doesn't use all the bolt holes?

I'm putting a LS1 crate motor spec'd for a 2004 GTO in my father's Panoz. This weekend I swapped the pan for a Kevko racing pan and realized one of the bolt holes on the driver's side isn't used. The block isn't dirlled for it and the GTO pan doesn't have the hole. However, the gasket does. My new pan pas a provision for it. I didn't bother drilling/tapping for it... I figure if it doesn't leak in the GTO application it'll be fine here. Any reason they do this?

Hmmm... looks like Corvettes don't use it either... wonder which setup does?
