Default Electrical headache

Hi
Ok so my wife has an 05 gto that she loves. However the past week it's an electrical issue. Whendever she parks the car and shuts it off the radio stays on. Now if you close the door and try to restart it. EVERYTHING dies in the car. But as soon as you open the door it's back to normal. Wtf is going on?

My next guess would be to take a look at the ignition switch ... good luck!

I was thinking that too. Just never seen a car act this stupid from an ignition switch. Gonna pull it apart tomorrow and see what I can find.

Sure sounds like a BCM type problem. It controls all of the things that are described. The OP said he checked, did he put a rubber hose around the wires anyways?

Sounds like the ignition lock cylinder has failed - very common on the GTO. It has happened twice to my GTO and it sucks bawls. You'll slowly wear out the battery over time if you don't catch what it's doing.

Unfortunately, it's probably best to send it to the dealership to rectify this problem. You may also find the replacement ignition lock cylinder and repair it yourself...but I would just take it to a dealer. There are a few things I don't trust myself doing to any car and one of those is anything electrical. haha

same thing happened to my car. there is a thread in the GTO forum on how to remove your ignition cylinder for if your key wont turn. this isnt the problem but it will show you how to remove it.

when you remove it, there will be a little metal piece near where the key is inserted (not the domed piece the thread is addressing, it should be almost flush). you can push it down and its supposed to "pop" back out. lube that piece up because it is sticking and make sure when you push it down again, it slides right back up. havent had a problem since!

derek
