Default Voltage low.

Hey everyone. I have 2005 Gto and have been plagued with voltage issues for the last two months. I have replaced the alternator and battery and still struggling to start the car. My interceptor gauge pod is reading 12.9 volts. When I installed the new battery it read 13.6 volts. The car also struggles to start.. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is starting the only issue? If so, check your starter connections for corrosion.

Do you have an aftermarket audio system? Does your A/C work well?

Yes I do have an after market stereo system but its disconnected from the battery because I though that was the problem but nothing changed. The AC does work well and whenever the blower kicks on it drops about .2 volts.

The only other thing I can think of right now (and I'm not even sure if these cars have them, I'm used to older vehicles, but it probably does) is the fusible link between the alt output & the starter solenoid. It feeds the positive side of the battery. Check wire continuity end to end. Also, check voltage at the battery and voltage at the alternator separately. Check your grounds. How are your idle RPMs?

Neither am I. Maybe someone with experience could chime in, but there's only one fusible link there and it looks to me like it's coming off the + battery, so I'd check that. If all else fails, take out your alternator and do a bench test. Just do a search, there's a few write-ups on it.

Ill test the DC sense and Lamp wires tomorrow and see what I come up with. Ill also try to track down the fuseable link and see if its falling apart. Thanks for all your help buddy.

Okay well thats the wrong schematic. The 05-06 gto's use the PCM to control the alternator....

You're welcome. Yeah, I REALLY have no idea then. Lol. I'm sure someone with some more experience will get their input in soon.
