Default header leak

Can a bad header leak cause the check engine light to come on?

It's possible. Did you scan it to see what code was set?

Did you check the bolts and make sure they're tight? Sometime header bolts will loosen up over time.

I'd take a ride to Autozone and have them scan it for you or buy a scanner. They're pretty cheap on amazon and it's a good thing to have. I keep one in each of my vehicles.

ok i will do that, didnt check the bolts yet. I had my headers put on last march, would the gaskets be leaking already?

Header bolts are notorious for vibrating loose, in fact they make locking bolts just for them. I'd start there first and make sure they're all tight. I think the torque specs are 15 or 18 ft/lbs.

If it's still leaking after that, the gasket could be bad. Get new ones from gm, they're much better than aftermarket and they are re-useable. While the headers are loose, check the flange with a straight edge to be sure it's not warped.

so i took a closer look with a flash light and see that the back left furthest header tube the gasket is cracked off and can feel exhaust coming out the top of it. How bad will this be if i need to drive it here and there before getting it taken care of?

would these gaskets work using pacesetter headers?

Those are exactly what you want. I used them for my pacesetters with no issues.

It should be fine to drive here and there. I'd still check the codes though, just to be sure you don't have any other problems.
