Anyone know the max HP/TQ a stock tranny can handle? I'm not going to bring it up to the max, but would like to know the numbers.
Thanx in advanced

There isn't just a single number for this, it's also rpm dependent. The lower your shift points, the more power it can handle.

Yeah, there are a lot of variables involved. The 3-4 clutches in my 65e were toast with 460rw within 3 months. Frankly, if you're looking at pushing some ponies, figure on the 4l6x being a maintenance item.

High RPM upshifts and hard downshifts are what kill these transmissions the fastest. There are guys who have smoked the 4L60E with a factory motor.

If you plan on modifying and keeping the 4L60E, just plan on rebuilding the transmission. Luckily, the rebuild costs have come down significantly over the years. Most people, however, will just swap to a 4L80E and be done with it.
