04/05 Purchase Decisions: which would you?
Quick Intro: Hopefully a future GTO owner within the next couple of weeks. Ive read extensively on the LS1 vs LS2 debate and I think I've decided on choosing whatever is the best deal. The hood, exhaust, bumper aren't a big deal to me (dont get me wrong I do like the look) but the drivetrain strength of the 05/06 is appealing. On the flip side, the oil consumption issues on the LS2's is not something I'd like to deal with (although alot of this is anecdotal I seem to see more complaints with the ls2 vs ls1 respectively. Basically looking to keep it stock-mild bolt ons as a DD/spirited driving/once a month track car.
Now my question is to you guys. Is lower mileage king when deciding?
Options:
1.04 GTO 6mt 85k miles for approx 8500-9000 (4 owner)
2.04 6mt 110k for approx 7500-8000 (2 owner)
3.05 6mt 114k for approx 8500-9000 (interior is a bit worse for wear)
IMO the extra 30k miles I would save with option 1 vs option 2 is worth the 500-1000 I would spend.
The real debate is is the ls2 05 with 35k miles more than the 04 for roughly the same price?
Appreciate your thoughts, and woot first post!

without seeing what gto's your looking at, i'd go with the lowest
mileage one you can afford. even then, your going to have to
put some money into it ( suspension / bushes, etc.. .), unless you
get lucky and the previous owner did some upgrades.
you plan on modding the one you buy ?

That was my thought as well. Lowest mile/best deal. I definitely don't mind putting money into the exterior or suspension (already budgeting for a suspension freshening with any gto i get). Its the motor/drivetrain that I would like to have a piece of mind on.
As far as mods, only external bolt ons: intake, headers, exhaust, with headers being furthest down the line.

Another quick question: for you ls2 guys, how has the oil consumption issue held up at higher mileage? Whats the real solution to that and when do you decide that you must do something to fix it?

I have an 05, even though the LS1 cars aren't bad I wouldn't buy one personally. Mine is pretty much stock except for a Kooks Afterburner Axleback and a Vararam.
Been debating lately if I should even bother modding this car further or get rid of it. Still undecided but I have a nice cam that would work for it so I just may pull the trigger...which reminds me I need to make my own thread lol

Just get the cleanest one you can afford with the understanding that some money will need to be put into it. Don't worry about whether it is an LS1 or LS2 car. Both are capable engines and both can be easily swapped.
