Default Finally installing my cam, but a few ?'s

Finally have the free time to get my cam install done, bought new lifters, trays, oil pump, and the rest of the essentials.

Now my question is, I have Texas speed long tube headers, will I be able to in bolt these from the head and let them just rest or will I need to remove the steering shaft?

All input welcome, just figured 90k miles would be too much for stock lifters and a 238/243 .610 .600 cam. Correct?

My experience has been, if you saw off the little casting block on the engine and remove the oil filter the headers will go in without unhooking the steering shaft.
You did get new pushrods and poly motor mounts right??

I already have the headers installed, I was wondering if I unbolt them from the head will I need to remove the steering shaft to allow snout room to remove the head, but yes I have springs and push rods

Anyone have a preferred way of priming the oil system? I'm going to assemble the pump on the crank for ease of o-ring alignment and to make sure the gears are aligned to prevent excess wear. So pouring oil in the pump seems to be out of the question.

Unplug the fuel relay and coil packs. Crank over 3-5 sec. a couple of times.

Pack the gears on the pump with some assembly lube.

I usually squirt some assembly lube into the oil port and move the gears around to get a nice coating before install, but you can also install the pump, remove the pump cover, and coat the gears. You just want to get a nice coating on the gears so they create a suction to draw the oil from the pan when priming the system. A dry oil pump won't always draw the oil.

Assem lube squirted into the pump and turning it did it for me too. After pulling the plugs and fuel relay it took a couple of 20 second or so cranks before pressure.

Any engine assembly lube will work.

Hell, Vaseline will work.

IIRC it was Permatex but it doesn't matter. Just as long as it's thick and clings.
