I have a wrecked 2004 gto with A4 It is in drive and the shifter got destroyed in accident iam trying to get motor to start it wont due to being in drive its showing its in drive on instrument cluster. What is the best way to try to get the motor to start ? Is there any way to bypass drive indicator circuit so i can get it running

You can manually put it in park if you disconnect the linkage at the transmission. but that may not solve your issue. is the shifter no longer in the car or is it just busted?

I was able to get to the switch on the transmission and find park then it did crank over
