Default Smallest starter for 06 GTO LS2 T56?

Swapping into a Miata and need to find a smaller starter than stock. 06 GTO Ls2 and T56 bellhousing. Tried searching but really found little help at all. Anyone have suggestions? Either slightly smaller diameter or slightly shorter in length would work, having header clearance issues. It's hitting the starter, not the solenoid.

I know I can swap to F-body style bellhousing, but trying to not spend $400 to solve this issue with a new BH and starter...

Could try a Powermaster XS starter.

It depends where the headers are hitting the starter. The Powermaster is shorter, but a little larger diameter. The electrical connections face the header side, not the front like the stock. It does index so that may help.

It hits the outboard side of the starter housing at the very forward end.

I can't find one that is listed for the GTO. The problem is the GTO starter sits higher in the Bell.. look here:

Stock GTO on left, typical F-bod starter on the right. The inspection cover shows it too, look at the bottom of the starter opening:

I don't think the f-body/vette XS will work...

Confirmed to fit the ls2 bellhousing? Can't fit that and the ls1 f-body stuff unless it has some sort of reversible mount block or something from what I can tell.

I've read conflicting accounts of the bellhousing being same or different. Was their a run change to the style I have perhaps? I only ever see a single starter listed for it so I have a hard time believing there was.

I tried calling power master yesterday, just rang and rang. No answwr. Will try again today.

I don't know about the bellhousing. I have the starter on my car (05) and a friend of mine has one. I have a 4L80 with no bottom cover. He has a T400 with a cover. It bolts to the engine and aligns with the Flex plate teeth. If you took a standard stock starter off, this will fit. Don't know about the header clearance. If you get in contact with PM, maybe they can give you dimensions.

I tried 3 "other", non OE starters and none would fit on my GTO bellhousing because they are clocked different...

The Powermaster has adjustable clocking.
