2004 GTO - Engine Photos!
It appeared that the new GTO has some factory headers on it. I took one photo of the passenger side (as best as I could reach from over the barricade) and it sure looks like some type of factory tube header on there.
Also, check out the nice Fuel Rail Covers, pretty sweet.

I haven't heard too much about the new GTO's. Should we be worried about these or what? What time in 2004 will they be on the market? How much will they cost, what kind of power will they be putting out? I suppose we could just strap on some stage 2 heads and cam right from the already existing market and put down some awesome power from the start! I don't think I'll be getting one but I'll be happy to race one!

Looks like the only saving grace is the lS1. I have to say I'm not impressed with the looks. Looks like a genetic experiment gone bad, kind of looks like a cross between a sunfire and mustang with a grill off a camaro. I was hoping for alittle more from the almighty Firebird replacement. JMHO

I have to say that I like these pictures a lot more than I liked the ones on GM's site.
I'm starting to come around on the looks.

Re: 2004 GTO - Engine Photos!
As far as I know for cost and power from what I last heard, the car racks in around 30 grand and has about the power of a 5 0 mustang. The horsies was like 305 or so last I heard, so unless they give a ram air option or a Judge model with extra engine goodies we wont have to worry about racing a stock one. The car isnt too bad lookin except for those nostrils, pontiac is going too far with that trademark design. As for a firebird replacement, GM should have scrapped the sunfire and cavalier and kept our f bodies. Chevy's replace is even uglier, that SSR. the El Camino must have meet up with a pt cruiser for that one. I believe both are scheduled for 2004, but if anyone is interested in the ssr expect some flaws, gto fans shouldnt have to worry about recalls. The gto is a rip off of another GM brand car, the Holden Monaro, pride and joy of australia. They just slowed the gto down some (incase anyone who doesnt know where they are gettin the car from, thers is a good bit for ya.) I got a feelin f-bodies will be back in a couple years, gto may sell but ssr will bomb.

Tony,
In this picture (in front of the air box) there is a vent. I wonder if this where the fresh air comes in?

Great pics Tony. I love to see pics taken by fellow gear-heads.
-Looks like true duals that merge just before the rear IRS?
-Vette Guys: how does this rear set-up look compared to yours, interchangeable parts?
-"Headers" look good, maybe a mid or 4-2-1. Looks like something BMW would put out from the factory.
This car will be reated above 305. My guess it will get Vette Powerplant(s) rated slightly below the big dog rating. Looks like a great car.
Never to early:
Santa can I have a new GTO sitting on some HRE 19s? <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Very good pics Tony!
I assume that is IRS and it almost looks like there's two separate mufflers under there infront of the IRS.
Also looks like factory headers of some sort. I like them. Wish I could get one <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Price is $30-35K range. Leather is standard item. CD-changer (Blaupunkt system) is standard. Side (door) airbags standard, etc.. Its a much nicer car than the F-body.
The GTO isn't a "Firebird Replacement". It isn't after the same target consumer. I visited the display two different days and heard all sorts of comments from other people, and the overall feeling was that people liked it alot.
LS1 is rated at 340 HP and 360 ft-lbs on the GTO. They are heavier than the F-bodies, so I expect high 13s stock out of them.
IRS setup is nothing like the Corvette's components. I wonder if any Australian companies make upgraded half-shafts and gears for them yet.
Looking under the car, it appears that there is dual exhaust and mufflers until it reaches the rear axle and then it merges into one pipe.

BIG difference, this has an LS1 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: 2004 GTO - Engine Photos!
The styling doesn't do it for me. It's nothing special, it doesn't stand out. Nor does it remind me of the classic GTO. It's a 2-door coupe. That said, it's got an LS1 so how bad can it be? At least they didn't stick a V6 in it and call it a GTO.

I agree styling isn't knockout, but initially it will have great sleeper potential. <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

Re: 2004 GTO - Engine Photos!
I'm sure the LS1 will be essentially the same engine that's in the 2001 and 2002 F-bodys. I doubt GM would do much except maybe change the cam considering the application. I'm wondering if those headers aren't a pre-production item just for the prototypes? This picture leads me to think they are.

I would think a stock exhaust would be stainless, and it wouldn't have a 3 bolt flange there. I would be suprised if the production model actually had tube headers since they make it hard for the cats to light off fast.

Very interesting.
I would think that stock exhaust manifolds would be cast but let's see.
I heard last year that the GTO would have less timing and it would also be heavier than F-cars so probably a high 13 second car stock. We'll see on that too.

Re: 2004 GTO - Engine Photos!
Well some things I noticed.
F-body TB is on it! So I have that ready for it. YES!
Dual Exhaust from the factory! That thing will sound awesome!
I comes with a LS6 intake just like the last f-bodies. 340hp 360 ft lbs is what I heard to.
It does look like headers! At least shorties https://ls1tech.com/GTO/DSC00782.jpg
The only weak spot looks to be the rear axel, not much of a drag rear end there. We don't know unitl someone breaks it!
The sad thing is someone beat me to the idea of a GTO with a LS1 in it and it's GM!

Has anybody heard the V-8 Symphony song from the Holden site??? I have a copy of the full version if someone wants to host it. If the car sound like it does in the song then <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
