Default Atlanta Car Show: GTO

Mr. Lutz...you must understand, putting an LS1
into a body,(that has no outstanding design),and
slapping the GTO logo onto it's sheetmetal, does
not make this car a GTO, as you describe. This car
does not represent the Muscle Car era that included cars like the Shelby, Camaro, 396GTO's,
Road runners,....give me a break. Take one look
at the 2005 Mustang, sir, and this will give you
an idea where to start. Please, in the future
don't refer to Pontiac divisions, new GTO, as
a tribute and spirit of yesterdays Muscle Car
excitment..it's not. At the show my wife pointed
to the new yellow,(sitting on a platform), GTO
and ask, what's that? When I explained that's
GM's idea of new Muscle she began to laugh, then
cried.

396GTOs?
Lets play get to know pontiac engine displacement of the early 60s
389CI 400CI Both came in GTOs but not a 396, that was for the Chevelle and Camaros and other chevys at the time.
other pontiac engine displacement of that era
326,389,400,421,455
Ever look at the 64 GTO? Its an intermediate sized family sedan. Catch was they stuck a full sized car engine(the 389) in there as an option package in 1964(GTO package). It wasn't sporty or very mean looking. Just your average type family hauler with some kick *** put in by Delorean and another pontiac head honcho.
SO Mr Lutz has it right by what they did in 64
They got a Lemans/tempest with its boring sheetmetal, slapped a 389 either with a tri power set up or a 4 bbl carb, and slapped the G.T.O option on the order sheet and it sold like hot cakes. I don't understand where you are coming from at all. Most of yesterdays muscle was a family car with a huge engine stuffed between the front fenders meant to go straight and fast down the quarter mile. These were your Fairlanes, Impalas, G.T.Os, Chevelles, Roadrunners, Chargers e.t.c. The ponycars being a different breed all together these are the mustangs(shelbys) camaros and firebirds that you reference in your post.
Mr Lutz has done better though this car can handle looks good(can look better) and stops on a dime. Plus it has the LS1 but you knew that, so by their definition of what makes a musclecar back in 64, HE IS ON THE MONEY

I agree the 64 was definately not a head turner went it debuted. I think the 04 GTO is just the beginning and they'll only get better from here!

True, very true, I havn't really given it much thought like that. Mr. Lutz did get it right with the new GTO; It is supposed to be a kick Azz family car which it looks like it will be I personally don't like the grill but what the hell Also, bring on the Heavy Chevy too--Just add a little more HP to compensate for the weight of these ******

I agree with frcefed98, Howie, and '01ws6'99ss

I have a lowly 1970 tempest that now runs 10's. The Tempest is a cheap commuter car that was lite and with a big V8 (almost 500 cid in mine)

The New GTO is a New muscle car. Think what the mustang started as. It was a mid-sized 2 door family car with a V8. Think what it is today. Thats what the new GTO is.

Go for a drive in one. You will love how tight they feel.

Front end looks? Can always buy the stuff to make it how the stylists wanted it before it got GMed
