Default drive-by-wire vs cable throttle and performance comparisons

i was wondering which of the new GTOs uses a cable throttle and which ones use drive-by-wire? what are people's opinions on here of both? how is throttle reponse on each setup? what years come with what setup? i am in the market for a GTO, and want to know what the best setup is, especially considering future mods as well

'04 GTO's have a cable throttle. '05 and '06 cars have drive by wire. Personally I like cable throttle but I don't think there is any distinct advantage to it.

I don't think there is any advantage between the two, however the cable driven seems to be a little less troublesome.

The 04's have more mod friendly pcm's, they also have more little glitches.

I agree doubt there is a difference in performance but the drive by wire does help clean up the engine bay a little with no TPS or IAC and duh the cable

Friend of mine has an 05 GTO with the drive by wire and the tuner took out some delay in the throttle response. I've driven it and it feels like my car.

CABLE... Think of when your battery runs dead, and you cant crank your car because your TB wont open.... that would be shitty. With cables when you hit your foot all the way down, that damn TB blade is gonna open, with FBW its anyones guess really.

I've owned an '04 and '06 but cannot notice any difference in throttle response. If anything the throttle on the '06 is smoother and easier to control. Does the HP Tuner software reflect the throttle position on cable opened throttle bodies?

I think at that point the starter might be something of a bigger issue. If you are remembering the old days of roll-starting a car when the battery died, the electric fuel pump, electric injectors, and computer would also all be problems.

All irrelevant. On a manny car once you engage the clutch & spin the crank the alternator sends juice to everything within a seconds.

I won't argue with you, but I will challenge you to roll start your GTO with the battery disconnected. PLEASE post results.

I always worry about the drive by wire, especially crossing heavy traffic and I need to punch it...hasn't failed me yet though.

Now there's a fun challenge - take away the ground for everything in the car and try to start it.
