Default Averaging almost 27 mpg on my '04 A4!!

I have a '04 A4 with Borla CB, K&N CAI, (Custom) Diablosport tune and TB Bypass. When I was stock I was lucky if I could get 20-21 mpg on the hwy. When I got the Predator and K&N CAI the gas mpg went up to 24-25 mpg hwy. Just recently I had Borla Catback installed. It seems the Predator has dialed it in nicely because today I was crusiing on the hwy and the gas mpg jumped up to 26.7 mpg!!

At lower speeds I'm getting 35+ mpg. Like if I keep her steady at 45 mph it stays constant at 36-37!!

So catback, cai, and the predator not only have made her quicker but it's helping me in the pockets.

What are some of you guys averaging on the hwy??

not calling you a liar but the 36-37 cant be right. 6 speed guys arnt even seeing those numbers. I can see high 20's at the right speed with those mods but thats about it.

I think I used to average mid to low 20's on the highway before the cam.

I would put a wideband on it. If you are truly getting those MPG numbers, you are probably running dangerously lean.

No I only get that 36-37 mpg when I'm at low speeds like in the 0-45 range.

you mean on the instant mpg display?

or running a full tank at that speed?

I used to avg 29-31 mpg with my M6 at 70-75mph,
but that was before the cam

Instant Mpg Display. If I stayed at the speed I was at it probably would've stayed in that 25-26 range.

I thought you were using Instant, hell when I used instant i've gotten 35-38mpg on a flat stretch of hiway. The most I've gotten in my GTO was 28mpg using the Advarage display and that was on a flat stretch with mostly crusing at around 70mph.

Yeah that was me (same username). If you are running lean anything above 16 AFR under load will most likely cause detonation. If the AFR gets too high 20+ detonation can destroy your engine.

Since you are using the instant MPG (which is useless BTW) you can ignore my comments.

Best for me was 33. I had used 1/2 tank and cruised at 55mph because I was following a Tennessee State cop. I think the average speed for that was 53. Then he turned off and then cruised at 75-80mph the rest of the tank. Average a little over 30mpg with a average speed of about 62mph for the tank.

That was with the GT2-3 cam. Probably would have been higher with the stock cam. That was also the first real test of the lean cruise setting 3 years ago to see if it actually worked or not on GTO's.

Yeah I need to reset my "mpg average" so I can see how all these mods have really improved the mpg. One thing I do know is true is my pockets have been a little heavier over the last few months. These mods definitely have helped her.

So running too lean is things not getting enough fuel and running rich is things getting too much??

lean = not enough fuel
Symptoms are pinging, knock retard, unusually high mileage

rich = too much fuel
Symptoms are black sooty exhaust, poor mileage, possible lack of power.

Rich is safer, too lean and your engine can/will go pop
With your mods you are probably a bit lean, I'm willing to bet nothing too drastic but I'd get a tune as your next mod.

You are kidding aren't you? Do you mean that when the instant mileage display on my '95 Deville says I'm getting 75 MPG, that isn't really true? I think I'm going down to the courthouse and file a cause of action against GM first thing tomorrow morning.

stop driving like a grandma....If you are worried about MPG buy a 4 banger. Go out and hammer your car a few times and remember why you bought a GTO.

The MPG can be greatly skewed based on the LTFT's. It can be made to very 5 MPG easily with an injector slope adjustment.

What MPG do you really get? Miles\gallons to refill tank...
