Gas mileage is usually higher for the LS1 powered 04s.

I'm not sure about insurance being hardly any different. The insurance should be the same. Your insurance guy should be able to give you a quick quote. I had a 82 Camaro and a 92 Camaro. The insurance guy didn't care. They both we V8 powered Camaros to him.

I would say get the LS1, save ~$8-$10K for mods. You will have a nice sleeper on your hands. I picked my 04 up for $16K with less than 15,000 miles. Granted it is an A4, but with the mods that I have done for ~$1000 she is every bit as fast as an 05/06. I have raced a few and we are neck and neck. It's a drivers race. I raced one guy who had some sort of aftermarket exhaust and intake and I beat him (he had an M6). The looks of the 05/06 are nice, but I prefer the clean lines of the 04 and I like the drivers side exit dual exhaust. It further adds to the sleeper factor (makes people think that you have a V6 in the thing). Either way you cant go wrong with any year GTO from Holden!

ls2! if you want sleeper just trade someone for the sleek hood....... you can mod like hell but like the f-bod boyz already know you cant beat technology.....thats why if they can they jump ship (ls1) and throw ls2 in their rides....hence 402's 408's so on and so on...... mine is fairly modded i love it but damn that ls2 is mean as hell.......

p.s. keeping up is not as fun as raping them. with a cam and nitrous i havent really had much trouble..... but if i could do it all over agian i would ****** the ls2 cause everything you get for the ls1 goes right in the ls2.....not to mention they already come with 243 casting heads that you can get cleaned up for pretty cheap.....

Cabro who needs and LS2, throw a Twin Turbo kit on it and go to town! I will be sporting the Gen TTr kit in the next month on my stock bottom end ls1 for 6mo or so until I want to build a forged beast and turn up the boost for insane hp

Or just get full exhaust and a cam and have a great running car with enough power to whip up most cars on the road.

cause a forged ls2 with a tt will still beat you...... see what i am trying to get at..... your behind the power curve with the ls1...... yes you can make them monsters but the ls2 can do the same thing..... hell if i could i would get an ls7 and call it a day.

Cabro that is where you are wrong, once you get to the insane power levels of built ls1 vs built ls2 it is all in the driver and if the car can hook. Many ls1s will tear apart equally built ls2.

Just sayin

Good idea if you are paying cash for the car and have an extra 8-10K on hand. But you can easily find an LS2 for 20-21K if you shop hard. Since most of us finance, an extra 3-4K isn't much on monthly payments.

its always a drivers race........ but it makes it a lil easier on the driver if you have technology backing you up...... thats all i am getting at..... odds are he is not going to make a monster..... and having the lil extra cubes helps with the smaller mods. me and my brother both have gto's i have the ls1 he has the ls2. mod for mod he is digging in my *** on the street. i am glad i dont have a spouse to slow me down like him, in the arms race. so that is my edge his ol-lady. not to mention everyone with the 04 dont save money cause they spend it all making it look like an 05-06 on the hood and rear bumper cover not to mention 05-06 has better brakes as well. so in the long run you are proably gonna spend more on the 04 then if you just buy an 05 and call it a day.

arkla dont get me wrong. i love my car and i know they scream but damn if i had an ls2 i would already have a 402 stroker(which req's a 6.0 block.) just saving all my money for one.

All I can say is that I have a LS1 with bolt-ons only and I can't find traction in first gear at all. Now I have the stock BFG's on her until I burn them off (not long from now) but I bet that she will burn a set of drag radials as well. Once I have heads/cam/headers I am sure that it will be all smoke from 0-60+ no matter what tires I am running!

My point is that once you hit the 400 RWHP level it is all up to a driver. Hell, in my 2000 SS I kicked the **** out of a dude in a 2004 Viper (both car were M6)! OK, maybe I didn't kick the **** out of him, but I had him by two car lengths @ 80 MPH! Some snot nosed kid in his daddy's car!
