Default XXI Olympic Winter Games - Vancouver 2010 Thread

Finally after 7 years of preparing for the 21st Olympic Winter Games, it begins today. As a citizen of Vancouver I would like to welcome everyone. The vibe in the city is unreal and nothing like I have ever experienced. I hope you enjoy The Games.

This logo is called is called Ilanaaq which is the Inuktitut word for friend. The Inuit people of Canada’s Arctic stacked rock in human form to create the inukshuk, a steadfast guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship, an eternal expression of the hospitality of a nation that warmly welcomes the people of the world with open arms every day. -Olympic 2010 page

I love the Olympics. I'm sure Vancouver is/will do an excellent job as host city. It is the perfect setting.

This just shows how dangerous the things they do are. I don't think anyone wants to see things like this happen. My prayers are with his family.

Vancouver is said to be a very nice city to begin with. Must be a great atmosphere to be around right now.

I have very little interest in the winter olympics save for hockey. I probably won't watch much.

I'm going to find a bar in Kitsilano to watch it.
It's pretty crazy around here.

I watched the torch passing last night on 4th Ave and it came right by my work today downtown.
Pretty cool stuff.

I found it humorous they had to bring in truckloads of snow...should've just held the games in north texas.

Ya usually the local mountains are nice and fluffy with snow at this time of year, however this is an El Nino year and Vancouver is the warmest city to ever host the Winter Olympic games. Thus, needing snow to be brought in. It's just Cypress mountain that needs the snow to be brought in. Whistler/Blackcomb mountains (north of Vancouver) have an amazing snow pack right now.
