Fun to see but not surprising, monster trucks have been doing this since the original Bigfoot trucks.

Really? I didn't know that.. Big Foot trucks really floated like that?

I always thought those bigger monster trucks would sink or be too top heavy and tip with all that extra suspension height and weight.

This Beetle seemed really light in weight and I thought this was a rarity.. Shit!!!

Alot of air in those tires I guess.... Hmmmm...

Well I guess you learn something new everyday then, thanks!!!...

Why can't we have ads like this today??? EPIC

Also, what did the Kennedy brothers have in common? They all died of something lodged in their brain.

Yup, I used to have some video tapes and books with pictures of them racing monster trucks across ponds/small lakes.

But they WERE top heavy and could easily flip over in the water, making it very dangerous to do. Likely a large reason why they don't do that anymore. Well that and the modern monster truck has a low mounted engine which would be submerged.

A VW Beetle? Kinda takes the 'manly' out of monster trucks doesn't it? Should've used an El Camino or even a Camaro at the least...lol

IIRC, VW was pissed at NL for posting that and demanded a retraction, so NL posted the same ad and it said "If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagon, he still wouldn't be president"

http://www.bigfoot4x4.com/firsts.html

Bigfoot 1 first to float on water in 1982. Bigfoot 2 raced a paddle boat in a river in '85.

I believe that's the commercial that National Lampoon was spoofing with that Ted Kennedy ad.
