Default 2012 Camaro - HP and MPG increases!?

I'm seeing ads for the 2012 Camaro V6 model, they are advertising 323HP and 30MPG on the highway.

Now I remember 2010 was 304HP and 29MPG, then 2011 they said the first HP was too conservative and it was actually 312HP and 29MPG. Now this year it goes up by 11HP and 1MPG? Did they do something to the engine? Just wondering.

Also, a second question. Has anyone noticed the new muscle cars coming out, and as the next new one comes out its HP is just slightly higher than its competitor? Example:

2010 Camaro V6: 304HP
2011 Mustang v6: 305HP

2009 Challenger SRT-8: 425HP
2010 Camaro SS: 426HP

Does that marketing technique actually work? Lol, one HP more than the competitor?

Most people care about numbers, even is its crank. When advertising to folks like most of us here on tech though......we know what we care about. Real dyno power and 1/4 times, and skid pad.

Its eye candy. In the end the only people that can afford these cars at the moment are just going to go with whichever they like better. The MPG would convince people. The one more horsepower probably won't. At least the v6's are finally getting to be worth driving. There is a member on here who rented a 11' v6 Stang and has videos of him racing it. It actually sounds good. Lot better than the old 4.0 and 3.8s

A twin turbo V6 camaro would be a cool little ride.

Even better that the v6 models are (almost) all faster than their previous v8 counterparts lol

cars these days are getting fast. one of the reasons I got out of the car game was because unless you're dropping loads of cash into your car, you'll be inferior to a V6 camaro soon enough lol. Just can't keep up with it.

now i just get mad because newer Jeeps can tuck 35's/37's with less supporting mods it's all hand in hand i guess.

2010 to 2011 v6 rating was just an update from re-certification. GM claims that it had not been tested since it was in the Cadillac or something to that tune.

The 2012 v6 actually makes more power. I know it has updated cylinder heads which do away with the need for exhaust manifolds. It is somehow built into the head. Didnt really look into it but thats what I read. Not sure if they made any cam changes or anything else...but the heads are different for sure.

Id love to see the representation pics of that head and how that works. Does it all converge in the head itself now? Are there only one exhaust port on each head???

So the new Camaro has an engine that weighs 20 lbs less and some updated engine parts with an additional 11HP. Is this thing getting any quicker yet? Maybe a 13.9 pass in the 1/4 mile? That would keep up with an LT1.

Doubt they'll break into the 13's, probably .1 difference at most ..quickest stock 2010-11 ran like 14.2 and pretty sure the average times are much worse than that.

It's hard launching a 4000lb cow down a runway... even if it has 323hp.

This post made me wonder...

Quote:
Mature weights of cows depend on the breed. Smaller breeds of cattle such as Dexter and Jersey mature anywhere between 600 and 1000 lbs (or 272 kg to 454 kg). Large Continental breeds such as Charolais, Marchigiana, Belgian Blue and Chianina mature up to 1400 to 2500 lbs (or 635 kg to 1134 kg). British-breed cows such as Hereford, Angus (including Red Angus and Black Angus), and Shorthorn mature between 1000 to 2000 lbs (or 454 kg to 907 kg), occasionally higher particularly with Angus and Hereford.

Bulls will always be a bit larger than cows by a few extra hundred pounds. Chianina bulls can weigh up to 3300 lbs (~1500 kg); British bulls like Angus and Hereford can weigh as little as 2000 lbs (907 kg) to as much as 3000 lbs (1361 kg).
So cows and bulls are lighter than a Camaro.
