Default GT500 Blows up on Dyno test...

Got Ford? I thought these motors were stout? That motor sounded dialed in rev'ing up, maybe he was running too lean or just rev'd it too high maybe?.... Hmmm? Can someone guess why this motor blew under full throttle?

Glad he didn't throw water on it and try and start it up again...

This one is for you Gaunt...

My old 92 SC400 running 150shot wouldn't dyno this high.. I could have taken a stock ISF though 0-80mph..

Stout motors that are bullet proof are these 1uz-fe's and I'm thinking the ISF's V8 engines are built just as stout!!!... They eat up the 100 dry shots... I even ran lean just to see if I could blow my 1uz-fe. Just went faster... Had 160,000 miles on it in the end and it still didn't use oil..

Consider this on your ISF....

When the heated 100 shot kicks you really feel it.. Trust me... Cheap safe install on these motors... I was at the LA car show I think 2 years ago and they ran an ISF on the Dyno machine, all day long flooring it, all day long it just held up strong.. There is no quit in these motors..

Anything can blow up if it's not tuned right. I'm betting that was the case here

I think the problem is that the car is a "supercharged gt500". you have to be careful when you install a supercharger on a stock gt500.

Not to slow your roll or anything but did you mean 1MZ-FE?

The reason I ask is because I had a 98 Lexus ES300 so I just wanted to make sure...

I own a Cruze Eco now. 4 banger with a turbo dripping with raw, pure unbridled.... fuel economy.

Correct me if am wrong but....these clowns seemed to have pushed that motor too high in the RPM range?? apart from probably a lousy tune of course.

Your sarcasm is hilarious.

I know those DOHC motors reve higher than LS motors. I think they max out at 8,000 RPM? Sounded like it was pushing 8,000 when it blew.

Not with stock cams they dont, not even close. Generally most are making peak power before 6500

Peak power and maximum redline are two different areas. Lots of cars make peak power even before the redline.

I have an ES300 as a DD now too, they have a little getty up and go for a front wheel drive V6. It's a very reliable ride so I continue to drive it.. A Camery on steroids is what they are..... Hope you have the "premium sound system" package by the way.. A Lexus loaded is hard to fuss about even in the ES bitch models..

I don't know the name of the engines in the ISF Lexus's?.. I just know they rev and haul and won't blow...

I owned the early model 1uz-fe 4.0 liter quad cam V8 in my 1992 SC400 Lexus.. I just beat the hell out of that stock motor with Nitrous, and the bolt on mods and it just kept humming along...

After seeing the ISF on the dyno rack at the LA Auto Show rev'ing all day long, I was like that is a motor... Anyways, I became a believer in that motor after witnessing that..

Just reflecting back I guess a bit in this thread.....

I bet it was right around 7k. Its also got a twin screw so its likely 700hp+. Stock motors can only take so much.

My thoughts too. I think he was expecting a rev limiter to kick in and it didnt.

03/04 Cobra's and 07+ GT500's have a forged/built motor from the factory, so they're more than capable of handling that much power.

Probably had stock cams though. Cams on a DOHC are a major PITA to change out + expensive.

My bet is lousy tune + revving too high.

Those flames were gnarly, if something blows it doesn't produce flames unless there was a spark outside the motor too. I am going with heat melted a starter wire and fuel or oil leaked out too...

Don't lol too hard Gaunt. .

My old sleeper was geared low and dialed in 0-60mph.. Running the 150 dry shot I was charging out of the gates and thru the first 3 gears.. Dampening was perfect, front end was lifting up slightlly, weight transfer was working well finally in the end..

My car was also legendary on the Lexus forums before I came onto this forum here.. Lextreme.com - Jibbby..

The car was gutless though after 80mph... Torque converter stall rate made the top end gutless but transferred alot of the torque to the lowend.. That was a give and take for sure.... I liked the torque. Tap the gas and it just jerked forward.. Felt great...

Yes I would have edged away from a stock ISF I believe in a quick sprint.. Cleaned the IS350's as that was not even a challenge under the Juice.. Worked over the stock BMW M3 models also in sprint races.. Raced a few of those.. Etc....

I did get worked over by a Z06, My buddy's AMG 55 slightly pulled on me too... Traction was the difference I think in those race sprints..

Timing the nos hit just right made all the difference in my ride.. Couldn't hit in 1st gear or you would just spin, had enough torque corverted to launch it fast in first gear even without the Nitrous.. When it shifted to second I hit and Nitro and boom it just gripped and pulled hard...

Went thru 3 stock transmissions for my trouble trying to get it all just right.. Lot's of lowend torque and friction gave up the ghost in 2nd gear when hitting the 150 shot eventually.. More then one time.. Also broke off my spindle and lug bolts on the rears.. Had to build up and strengthen that up too.. The stock 1uz-fe engine, drive shafts and everything else held up just fine under the torque.. Pissed me off every time my **** broke though....

Back to the junk yard I went for anther $300 used stock tranny anyways... Upped the line pressure and installed an additional tranny cooler and that all helped in the end to save the last Tranny I got.. Luckily they were cheap.. My dyno went well over 400 torque.. WHP was not that high at 330whp.. Torque wins races...

Thought I would share anyways...
