Default Seriously, what can neighbors/the law do about your loud car?

Finally happened.

Neighbors wife knocked on my door and said,
"your car makes my toaster rattle off the shelf. Its a nice car and I hate to be a pain, but what can u do about it?"

Ironic part is her hubby a few days ago said,
"its sounds freakin awesome and there is no way I would tell another man what to do with his toy."
So it does not bother him

Well, I was nice and offered an idea,
luckily my garage is on a slight up hill angle
and I can nudge my car backwards and roll
out the garage and start her when I exit
so I wont "knock over the toaster" at 5am.

They built my complex kinda stupid.
My apt is lovely. Two bedrooms, each with its "own"
ajoining patio and bathroom.

The downstairs concept is dumb in that the
have a loft that sits basically above my garage door
so when I start her, thier bedroom is literally above my car!

I was nice...................
this time.

If I told my wife she would be like,

"**** them, next time rev it to 5k and ride the clutch out!"

So if it came to it. What can they do legally.
Hell I am curious what a cop can do if I am
idleing at a red light next to him.

Is there a law on this?

1) check your local and state laws on the net. If you live in a city, thet typically have ordinances regarding noise. Outside the city limits are generally not as strict. Not sure in your location.

2) in an apt. complex, they tend to have "in house" rules or policy. you might get lease violations, or worst case evicted.

hope this helps,
chris

Sounds like she asked nicely so I woundn't get pissed at her about it. And if it is knocking their stuff over it would be a bit of an annoyance for them.

But, thats also why I wont live in apartments with connected garages. Even quit cars will rattle crap when everything is connected. Hell, my windows shake when my neighbor walk up the stairs to his apartment, but he is a bit of a fat ***

Like stated above, I would check the apartment rules but the next time the people complain give them a big and tell them to go on about their business. Just my $.02 worth, but then again I am used to loud cars and do not understand why some people have such a problem with them. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, tell them that if they don't want their **** rattling off of the counter to go buy some velcro and secure their toaster with it.j/k

Offer to call your neighbor every morning at 5am and tell her to grab a hold of the toaster.

My old car was really loud. I was leaving this girls house late one night. Really quiet country neighborhood. I felt bad so I pushed it down the road before I started it.

Do you have bullets on your car? If so, I feel her pain. I would get XR1's, Edelbrocks, or Magnaflows.

My car is freakin' loud too... I know my neighbors don't like it, but only one has ever complained, and that was because I was running the car at 10pm right after my cam install, trying to heat cycle my new springs.

As long as you're civil and do what you can to accomodate, if your neighbor is cool, they'll understand... I always start my car up and drive nice and slow out of my property, then let it idle and warm up some down the street. (I live in a place with a homeowner's association, so I have to be considerate if I don't want to be fined)

I say tell them to make adjustments or offer to pay for them yourself. From what you said it sounds like rolling your car down the driveway could be detrimental to your health or that of passers by so I'd just either park somewhere else or tell them to ignore it. Your neighbors' bitching isn't worth getting run over by your own car just because they have a noise complaint.

I guess it's all in how you talk to your neighbors. Everytime my parents light off thier dragster, we always call all of them. Some of them leave for a while, and most of our neighbors love it. The ones who live next door usually throw a party/bar-b-que. We always call the city cop (yeah that's right, only one cop, and it's NOT as cool as it sounds), and the Mayor lives just down the street. Hell, he even goes with us to the strip most of the time. That damn car can be heard for miles, but nobody has ever really complained. Maybe we have just been lucky so far.

i'm always worried about my neighbors as well, but they have never said anything. i have to pull way past my house to park under the carport that abuts the garage apartment. have to drive right by their house when i'm doing this. i have about 4 car lengths to get out onto the street. i've been contemplating switching my mufflers over to the twister mufflers but can't get motivated, plus i dont know how much quieter it will be.

what other kinda tubular mufflers are there besides, XR-1's, sweet thunders, and twisters? i just want somthing quieter. cruising down the highway now w/ 4.11's is kinda loud. used to not be so bad before i got the 12 bolt.
