For you night owls (or early morning owls, my schedules off, I just don't know anymore), I have a question for ya.
How would you describe rice?
I see it as a crappy car (not always but usually) with a performance sticker (and the company makes absolutely nothing in the car), and a BOV without a turbo, a purge kit (no nitrous at all, but certainly NOS stickers, of course), and to top it off a wing on a car that never exceeds 80 MPH (due to the fact it can't go that fast, not the teenager driving it doesn't want to go that fast, stickers DO help, though).
Rice is basically anything that doesn't have the muscle to to back up the driver's attitude. Stickers, the fart, Altezzas, body kits, a giant freaking glue on wing, etc are some prime examples of rice. Most ricers also run 15s or higher, sometimes worse than the factor 1/4 due to the resistance the wings and body kit add.
Pretty much any non-V8 can be rice. I know rice at first covered imports that tried to screw with American muscle, but these days we have a lot of domestic rice too. V6 Mustangs come to mind as a prime example. The guys who get a second fake glue on exhaust tip and some fake vents to make them look like a V8 Stang are really common out here. They also love those Altezza tail lights.
Anything that is a smaller car that actually had effort put into making it fast rather than making it look ugly is not rice. For example I have a Civic De Sol that lives a block down from me. The owner has turboed, put a tasteful body kit on it and basically build himself a very nice little roadster. That thing is run to take out and run road routes with. Even with the turbo he's still slow at the track, but the purpose of his build was to make a roadster, not a 9 second car so I don't give hima hard time about that.
Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.)Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessivley angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vynils. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc.
speaking of which, saw a Chrysler Sebring today with corvette tail lights, lol
