want to swap my open trailer for enclosed
I currently have a 2007 Yukon XL that my wife loves. We use it to tow my 20' open metal trailer. It weighs 3175lbs. I am really wanting a 24 or 26' enclosed trailer that weighs 3400lbs but don't really want to get rid of the Yukon and can't afford a separate tow vehicle. So how unrealistic would it be to pull an enclosed with a 1500 Yukon XL? I'm guessing right around 7500-8000K weight once car and tools are loaded. I believe my max haul is 7700 so I would be teetering on the edge.
I know the answer is buy a bigger truck but I figure I'd get input from someone who hopfully has done what I want to and tell me it's a horrible idea or not as bad as I think.

My 07 Yukon towed my 18' steel trailer, car, spare wheels, tools, etc. just fine until you threw in some hills to the equation. Towing around Florida was great but heading up into Georgia made the poor truck really work for it. I think putting it on the ragged edge of it's capacity on even a tow with very little terrain changes is just not going to be enjoyable. Just my $0.02 of course.

You can tow a trailer with a lawn tractor. Not very well, or for very long. But you can do it.
The biggest problem with an enclosed trailer is - as you said - the weight. A big metal and wood box is a lot of mass to move around. So you really need to figure out a way to keep the weight down, and still meet your needs.
Since this is an F-body site, is it safe to assume you need something to carry an F-body? What is your big goal - protection from the elements, vehicle security, parts and tools security? Keep in mind that enclosed trailers are fairly easy to break in to, and easy to steal off the back of your truck.
I use this trailer for my open car:
It's a nice compromise between open and enclosed. Obviously, not very secure. But extremely light weight, low towing resistance, and good protection from the elements. This one is specifically built to fit my car. But it can be custom built to fit any car. Or, you can get a kit to attach to your current trailer.

The lightest you are going to find are full aluminium, Trailex or Featherlite. Keep in mind you are going to pay $ for it.
My 24' weighs in around 2900# bare and was approx. 20k. If you start adding interior, cabinets, etc the weight starts to creep up.
