Default First autocross set up

I want to attend my first autocross event. Any mods I should do before hand. My car is basically a stock trans am.

Nope just make sure no hubs or ball joints are loose, properly inflate your tires, take all the loose items out of your interior, then get out there and drive.

Just make sure you're car is running at 100%. Check all fluids/filters and make sure nothing's loose in the suspension. Other than that just go out there and have fun

Sounds like I should go out and try it for the first time. Do you normally stay in 1st gear or 2nd gear all the way through?

Autocross doesn't seem like it will be as harsh on the rear end as drag racing is. Is mainly breaks that I should keep an eye out on?

Yea just don't do something stupid and dump the clutch at 6000RPM. Autocross runs are usually under a minute long so as long as they aren't warped and you got plenty of meat left on your pads you should be fine.

If you drive a 4th gen keep an eye out for hub play. Pro Solos are a drag race start but there isn't much grip with the stiff side walled tires.

Take it slow the first few runs and get to know how the car behaves with the track setup. What I did pre-suspension on my car was removed the spare tire and jack out of the back after the first run, which made a massive difference. If you start to like autocross, I'd invest some money into chassis/suspension work. Strano springs, Koni shocks, good tires, sway bars, strut tower, etc and you can have a VERY quick autocross car. It also helps to have someone with a bit more experience ride with you at least for a few times. Autocross is pretty cheap to get into and a LOT of fun, very addicting, so get out there and do it!
