NASA now allows the LS1 F-body to race in a new class called Camaro Mustang Challenge-2 (like CMC but w/ newer cars and more power). anyone building a car for this? i've been racing in CMC w/ my LT1 95 since '05. i was thinking of moving up to CMC-2. wondering if i will have anyone to play w/.

Would you build a new car, or add weight to your current CMC car?

my current CMC car would not have to add weight, even if move up to the allowed 260/310 numbers.

I was curious as to whether folks were running CMC-1 or 2 up here in the MW?

WooHoo! I currently lead the Texas region points in CMC-2.

I don't see any points accumulated in CMC-2 for the Mid-west region. I know a handful of -2 cars built on the west coast.

Did anyone read the Freiberger article in the latest edition of Hot rod Magazine, lamenting about how NASCAR has lost it's roots? How win on Sunday sell on Manday is just not the case any more? Where are the "stock car" classes?

Look no further than Camaro/Mustang Challenge.

These are basically stock cars, with very few modifications allowed, limited on HP and TQ and a very portly minimum weight. On track wins boils down to how good someone is in the shop , not how fat the checkbook is.

A competitive CMC car can be gridded for under $10K and an annual racing budget of $5K. Now THAT is cheap racing.

i do not know of any CMC-2 cars in the mid west yet. the class was just anounced in Sept of 2006. so its a relativly new class. i think there were 6 CMC-2 cars on the west coast last weekend. there are a few registered for Mid Ohio for the 2007 National Championships. its only a matter of time for the LS1 4th gens to start getting built for this. what will help this along is having a replacement for the 98-02 Camaro. once this happens, lots of LS1 4th gens will be flooding the market and prices will drop like a rock. this happened w/ the 93-97 LT1 cars when the LS1 cars came out and it happened to the 3rd gens when the 4th gens came out.
its only a matter of time untill CMC-2 is packed full of 98-02 Camaros.

There is a chart in the rules that tells you how much weight the car has to carry given a specific HP/TQ the car makes.

http://www.camaromustangchallenge.co...MC%20Rules.pdf

Example:

260/310 - 3200
270/310 - 3320
280/320 - 3360
300/320 - 3600

All weights are as your car comes off the track.
