Default prices of cars these days

I have been tossing the idea of letting go of my 02 z28 and getting a 1st gen. I was wondering how much cars are going now days and was looking in classifieds. I was shocked how much most are now. 10-15k for a 02 camaro with 50-100k miles.... Are people actually buying them with that price? now mine is pretty clean fully built ls1 to 6 speed to a 9". paint has some chips and dings. car runs strong and even with the flaws looks good. car has 118k miles on body and around 4k on the motor build (everything in motor was changed). car puts down 438hp and 405tq. never brought to track. how much you think it would go for? 15k seemed high (seemed going rate) but 5k what blue book said is low.

Hard top, t top or vert? If it's a hardtop it will bring more money, t top is in the middle and verts are the hardest to sell. Just remember just because people are asking big money doesn't mean they are selling. I recently parted most of my vert out for more than I'd have gotten if I sold it running or as a roller. I'd say 10-12k would be a good selling number, but I'd start a little higher because everyone wants to negotiate. Glwts, and finding a first gen that's anywhere near affordable.

Not easy to get $10K for a 50K mile '02 Z28 unless it's an M6 and the cat's meoww in all respects (built up well or an immaculate 1-2 owner M6). I don't think even the best stock 50K mile M6 Z28 in the country can fetch more than $10.5K right now....and $10K is hard enough. That's good money. The hard part is finding them. They tend to have closer to 100K miles or under 30K miles. Not often found in the 50K mile range and nice to boot. $16K-$16.5K will probably buy you a 1-owner 2002 M6 SS with 10K-14K miles. Subtract from there for more miles, more owners, and more abuse. 90% of cars posted for sale have prices that are in la-la land. Look at the bottom 15% of prices to see what's probably actually selling. Or go to Ebay and look at '98-'02 F body "sold" cars only. It will be an eye opener. And that's no guarantee those cars actually sell. I'd say 1/2 to 3/4 of those actually sold due to everything from dead beat bidders to sellers running shills when there is no interest on their cars.

120K miles stock M6 2002 with dents and dings could be in the $5K-$7K range. Seeing as you just fully rebuilt/replaced the engine, trans, and rear end that could add another $3K to $6K to the price....depending on build, drivability and freshness. I can't see it being worth more than say $10K-$12K. Mileage seems to trump most anything else.

I did the 1967-1971 muscle cars for about 15 years. Any deviations from stock will tend to devalue or at least seriously reduce the demand for what you end up with (ie an LS-1 in a 1969 Camaro). Most buyers are looking for stock factory colors, factory engine sizes that were offered (302, 327, 350, 396, etc.) and a factory like appearance. This shouldn't stop you in your quest if what you really want is to "resto-mod" a First Gen. It would be no different than trying to put a built 396 or 427 into a 4th gen.
