Default Gto ls2 in '86 Monte carlo ss

Greetings every one, My name is Jason and This winter I will be making the switch over to the ls world from a 383/t56 combo in my g body.

Currently I have an 06 gto ls2 engine, with the stock harness/ecm/gasp pedal.

I'm planing on finding somewhere to have the harness made into stand alone, and installing a tsp Magic stick 3 cam. Also ceramic coated long tubes and a tune.

I have alot of parts I know I need to buy such as oil pan, engine mounts ect.

I also am planning on trying to find an ls t-56, or buy the parts to convert my lt1 style t-56 if need be.

Any ways I'm sure I'm going to be on here asking alot of questions and just wanted to introduce myself/ project.

Already have my first question.... How does the e40 ecm trigger the high speed/low speed fans? Does it complete the circuit via ground? I have a 2 speed single fan setup on my car currently that has its own relay setup and is turned on by 2 temp sensors that turn the fans on. Wondering if the ecm would basically do what the 2 sensors on my 383 do?

clean monte! As for the swap I used Texas speed long tube headers for a 98 to 02 Camaro. I used one inch set back motor mounts and they fit perfect on the driver side, passenger side needed a primary dented but for the most part they fit great. Best part is there 450 bucks stainless steel and you can take them in and out of the car!

as for the fans I am Not sure all I know is my computer runs my fans

Cool, this is the place for the answers.I have yet to work with that pcm,but it should be able to be set to trigger your fan relays,if you are getting a standalone harness built they can make it happen.

Aa for a stand alone, steer clear of current performance wiring. I had nothing but issues with mine. PSI conversions has a nice harness in my 5.3 swapped OBS Silverado

Nice looking Monte. From what I have read, the LS ECM has two different relays that are actuated & I think one is on a voltage limited circuit that runs the fan at a slower speed. When the second relay is on it is full 12v & runs full speed. Somewhere I have the circuit information, I will find it & share. I am going to run a PWM module to run fans at a variable speed.

I'm running an LS2 from a Trailblazer, but swapped heads & intake to LS3 pieces. Transmission is a T56 magnum, I decided that finding a used trans, going through it would cost about as much as a new Magnum & would handle more torque.

Does the drivers side Header kick out at the collector like the pacesetters?

any pictures of the dent you had to do?

Thanks !

Using the Hooker/Holley swap parts that are coming out will likely be the cleanest and easiest way to get the job done, and the price difference between the Hooker parts and piecing together your own kit and making f body headers fit is only $5-800, not pocket change but easily worth it for well engineered parts that fit right the first time. Here's most of the details.

Yes they do but thereis loads of room from the collector to the frame. I did not mod the collector at all. As for the dent, it's the one closest to the rear lower control arm that needed it. I did not take a picture of the debt but I think I have a few fitment pictures in my build thread

I bought a set of hedman 1 3/4" stepped to 1 7/8" long tubesfor my swap. Also ordered a monster stage 2 clutch and flywheel for the car.

The starter for my ls2 is a mitsubishi from a 2006 gto, but my t56 and bell housing is from an ls1 f body. Does anyone know how much the bellhousing needs to be modified to run the mitsu starter, or should I just swap to an ls1 starter?

Also, I'm worried about the gto alt having sufficient clearance on the steering box, what does it take to get an ls1 alternator to work with my harness if this does become an issue? Both alts have different plug ins and I believe different amount of wires.

I just can't see spending that much money on headers that will eventually rust, look like ****, and my even need replaced if the rust gets bad enough.

I wanted a set of headers that I didn't have to modify/dent tubes to get to clear. I bought these second hand but never used for almost half of the new price.

I'm not too concerned about rust. The ceramic coated long tubes that are on my car now still look great and have been on the car since '06.

Comparing that alternator location to my l92 factory PS pump which is in the same location, it looks like even with a setback plate you might hit the steering box.

In the g body swap thread, toddokay test fit a gto alternator with the holley swap parts and it cleared, but just barely. I'm going to try to run it since I already have it.

Gotcha. If he did it and said it clears, can't go wrong with that at all...

Here's the GTO alternator test install in the Holley Monte Carlo SS equipped with the Hooker engine brackets...it fit but only with the quick ratio 700 box that comes as factory equipment on the performance G-bodies. I didn't have a dust cap on the end of the pulley to be able to verify it would clear, but I'm sure you can come up with something if it happened not to clear.

Thanks again for that Tod! I dont see why it would be a problem to run it with out the dust cap if needed?

you certainly could run it without a dust cap, but I would expect the possibility of shortened bearing life as the trade-off.
