Default The joy of buying a used car HAHAHA

Well to my discover this morning the radiator has a leak, a small but steady leak. So looking into a new replacement and go from there, I kinda of figured I would start to see the sign of wear as I DD it everyday. Any suggestions on oem replacement or just go ahead and buy the alradco aluminum radiator? Thanks

comes down to how you want to spend. My OEM lasted well over 100k miles before I leaned on and broke the overflow nipple off. So I replaced with an OEM V6 manual transmission AC delco rad which was half the price of the 'V' part number. Same thing.

Nice! I went to the the dealer after work and just my luck the v6 radiator is only back east, they get it from a dealer or in Michigan and will take a wk to get. I will look into your sand see what the wait time is on that.

Who goes to a dealer for parts today? Just googled it real quick. Summit ships fast BTW.

I definitely have a laugh when I hear about people going to a dealer for parts other than specialty items.

Yeah, not to be a jerk, it's just antiquated. And I don't trust them. Plus GM dealers around me faded and disappeared after the bubble burst a few years back. There was a giant Chevy dealer in the same spot since I was a little kid. Gone. Now it's a 40 mile drive to one. Doesn't matter, I've never gone to one for parts anyhow.

OP - you still going with a dealer on this?

I went to the dealer because they said they would have it before 5 pm yesterday, but they were yanking my dick on that. So I'm looking for the fastest way for it to ship, probably gonna do the Amazon and get it in 2 days. Thanks for the links and for the info guys !

I do but I'm set up with a wholesale account, after a buddy with a shop asked the part manage to set me up. My pricing is right in line with gmpartsdirect and amazon. Nobody can touch the prices I get on batteries and even items like antifreeze aren't out of line.

Occasionally parts are overpriced but would be from any GM source. Like a rear window regulator for my V ($220 wholesale). Fixed that with a pic-n-pull part for $18. New aftermarket was about $80.

Not to say your wholesale account isn't worthwhile, but a window regulator without a motor is $40. I replaced one of mine about 4 years ago. The old motor swaps over pretty easily. I got mine on Amazon.

Some are cheaper than that. Don't know about the quality, but it may be the same as Dorman. Dorman was $52 on amazon. $80 was at advance, so I could fix it on a free weekend.

Are you going with a lower temp thermostat? It may help your radiator last a little longer. It's probably what helped mine last 150k.

Yes I was looking into that, but couldn't find a dedicated thread on the 160 t-stat. You running a 160?

I am. I bought it with it already swapped and I'm assuming it had been in there for a while. It runs 175 on the hwy and 185 in traffic on a hot day. Adjusting the fan settings is best and can be done through a tune, but you could probably get away without one for a while.

there's no reason to have a lower thermostat than stock.
