Default TSP 383 dynoed today at RPM in NC

Hi all. Got my 2001 Trans Am tuned today at RPM in Garner, NC and I'd like to start off by saying the guys were very knowledgable and nice. The shop was filled with GM products making great power.

My set up is a 383 with TSP crank, TSP 6.125 rods, Wiseco -3cc pistons, our Stage 1 LS6 heads milled .030. (60cc). Compression is at 11.74:1.The cam specs are 244/248 .612/.615 on a 112° LSA. With Racetronix 42lb injectors, stock LS6 manifold and tb. QTP long tubes, cats and magnaflow exhaust. 6speed car with the 10 bolt.

The car made 449rwhp on the base tsp tune. After tweaking, Chris brought it up to 460 and vastly improved the cars driveability. I know I'm leaving power on the table in the manifold, but I don't know if 15hp is worth $1,500 at this point.

Any input/comments welcome.

That torque curve looks really good. Any plans on hitting the track soon?

I'd love to get to the track to see what it will do. However, my howling 10 bolt says otherwise.

15 HP may be what you're leaving on the table with a 346, but on a 383, it could be a lot more. The LS6 intake is a huge restriction on a 383.

I was kinda thinking that. The cam's listed power is to 6800 but my power peaked at 6240.

A fast 102 should net closer to 25-30rwhp over the ls6. Don't forget, you can recoup an easy 400+ for your current intake setup. Are you running a 1 7/8 header?

I am in Wilmington, NC. Closet track here is Coastal Planes.

I think I'm going to do the intake upgrade with a Nick Williams TB soon. I was expecting mid 400 numbers but 470-480 is a decent pickup. My only thought is that my heads may not be able to take full advantage of a 102. I was thinking maybe a ported 92. That also allows me to keep my rails.

I am running 1 7/8 but I have cats and I'm running through a magnaflow. I have an electric cutout, just haven't had it installed yet.

That's indicative of the intake/TB setup you're running. Adding a FAST 102/102 to the mix is going to move the RPM band up significantly.

Nice to see similar setups. You definitely have lots of potential for more power. What I notice in the graph is how early the tq gets up there & how it starts to drop at about 4750rpm. That cam, with 22* of overlap, should carry further IMO. How high did you spin it or plan to spin it?

What I feel the restrictions would be: First, of coarse, the intake manifold. Your exhaust. I'm also thinking from the header back. Not really the headers themselves. If you have cats & the magnaflow cat back, with no cutout, that thing is choking.

I'm about to get my 92 back from Mamo & we'll see how much a 383 likes it.

OP, your dyno graph is very similar to mine. Once I added the larger headers, I made a lot more lower RPM power and torque, but power dropped off at a lower RPM than it did before with the smaller headers, and pretty much nosed over past 6,000 rpm's. Over-scavenging is what Brian Tooley and Martin Smallwood think it is.

What heads and cam setup are you running. I was debating a 92 over a 102 as well.

You're likely leaving 20+ hp on the table with a stock ls6 intake vs a ported fast or msd intake

$1500 is a pretty heavy cost for 20hp. You would think these FAST manifolds are made of gold with the prices.

PRC 215 62cc & 235/239 .637/.620 116+2. I have almost the exact same short block except for the block itself.

Just the jump to the 92 would be awesome.

Awesome. I'm interested to see what you get out of you manifold swap.

Thanks. As I always had the 92, on the 383, what is to be seen is the gain from the port work itself. I think the motor will be happy.
