Default My lt1 v. 4.6 v. 04 Gto

I would have posted this in the street racing and kill section but I didn't want this to get buried by all the other stuff. So what I'm starting this thread for is to see if my bolt on LT1 will run with a 02 4.6 and an 04 gto.

4.6- Cammed, 5 spd, other than that stock. Stock exhaust stock everything besides the cam which makes no sense to me but oh well.

04 GTO- Auto, bone stock.

My car is a 94 Trans Am- Full exhaust, 1.6 rr's, egr delete, tb bypass delete, no cats, 160 thermostat, 275 Nt555's, auto.

I'm thinking that I should be able to hang with both of them if not beat at least the mustang. I've already killed an auto bolt on 95 5.0 Cobra and a 2015 Ford Taurus Sho with the 365hp V6.
Any opinions are appreciated!

I agree, I think you will work that 4.6L every which way and think you will also pull the 04 gto

Those 2v cars are weak. Mine ran only a 12.8 on a 100 shot. My 3v however was very strong, Trapped 109 with just tune and h pipe and axle back and ran 13.0-13.1. You should take that 2v no problem though

GTO race should be fun

I wouldn't be too worried about that 4.6. When I owned a bolt-on '95 formula I would beat bolt-on 2v 4.6's pretty bad. I dunno about the GTO tho. My dad had an '06 GTO auto and I ran a 12.7 in the 1/4 at 107 mph when it was stock. The '04 will obviously be slower being it has the LS1 motor instead of the LS2 but I think that should be an interesting race from a dig, whoever gets the launch will get the win there. From a roll my money is on GTO, the LS motors pull pretty good up top. The Goats are heavy but once you get them going on the highway they move out pretty good. If you had a 6-speed or had a converter in your auto my money would be on you.

I'd say you beat both cars by a good amount. The ls1 gto being stock has to much weight to compete with a modded lt1 car. I think it may be a easy win.

I agree, especially with the gto being a auto with no tune

Good point about being auto with no tune. I completely forgot about the torque management that plagues those cars until they are tuned. That could be a game changer right there. That reminds me, they also tend to have heat soak issues with the stock air cleaner and iat sensor.

From a dig youll win just because of the tires. From a roll the GTO might be able to come around you.

Well guys, the Mustang pussed out. Said his car needed a clutch even though I saw him driving around today. I'm supposed to race the gto this weekend, I'll keep you all updated.

Yea I think your only worry is the LS1(especially up top), definitely have a better chance from a dig. When I had my bolt on 97z moons ago I raced a 99ss both autos(he was SS stock) and was pulled up top pretty good from a dig.

Unless the 1995 Cobra was auto swapped which would be a lot of work for little gain in just a bolt on car, it was a GT as no Cobra came from the factory with an auto.

I don't think you'll have a problem with a bone stock LS1 GTO. My buddies 1993 Z28 auto with an SLP intake and exhaust is a very close race with another friend of mines LS1 GTO that has longtubes

i agree, gto should pull up top no problem. If you run 0-70mph you may be within 1 car length, but by 100mph expect to be 3-4 back.

Stock 04 auto GTO is slow as *****. Drivers race vs a bone stock LT1, high 13s/low 14s. They are just an LS1, not the LS2, and weigh a shitton more then an LT1. The 05+ are what you need to worry about. The 2v............is a 2v, what more can you say lol .

With just exhaust and tire you should destroy both of them.

I so despise the GTO. How the **** can a car that size weigh the same as a garbage barge?

there should be a good .5 sec and 3-4mph difference between an auto goat and auto LT1. Dont get me wrong, I love my LT1's, but a stock auto (or mild bolt on auto) is slow, especially with 2.73's.

Ended up doing quite a bit of racing yesterday night. Ran the goat from a dig and put about a car on him. Right around 70 miles an hour he came around me, unfortunately the 4.6 was not there. Also ran a G35 which I stomped. Got to see a Vortech supercharged/forged 416 base C7, made 900 rwhp on 15 lbs of boost, this didn't include the two NX bottles in the back. One fun night in Wichita!
