Default C4 5.3/4+3

Baumholder, Germany

Chinese turbo
162k didn't miss a beat

Won't be needing any of this

Tipless
5.3 bought for $440
Engine bays pretty tight

Started a thread on corvetteforum but I'm guessing most of the guys aren't fans of Chinese turbos or non-factory parts.
Here is my '88 Corvette that I've had for about a decade now. By now, LSx engines have been put in just about everything but I only found a couple build threads on a C4 and none with the 4+3 tranny. Just got the L98 out yesterday but I've been gathering parts for the better part of a year now. Car already has a walbro 255 but I have a kemso 340 on hand. lol
Planning on using a C5 balancer but still need a C5 powersteering pump and brackets for everything.

-stock 5.3 bought for $440
-LS1 intake
-head studs
-ebay gt45
-deka 60lb injectors
-621 bellhousing & sachs 1050 FW
-f-body oil pan
-f-body water pump
-h.o. truck alternator
-engine adapters (can't remember what brand)
-mls head gaskets for 862s

It will drop right in using the stock engine mounts with adapter plates, and an F body pan. It will even fit with truck accessories.

From what I've read the truck balancer won't clear the steering? In case, I've been watching a Vette balancer on ebay.

bump Still trying to figure out if there are any alternatives to the pricy C5 powersteering pump and if the truck damper will clear.
Wont have a chance to try until the weekend.

I have truck accessories on an LS in a C4 and they line up almost identical to where the original accessories were.

Yes, all stock truck accessories other than A/C.

I'll snap a picture when I get home. The balancer is in almost the exact same spot as the original.

I also have a 1988 C4 which I have always wanted to do the swap in, but making the 4L60E fit seems like a lot of work. I don't know why I didn't consider putting in just the engine, mated to the stock transmission, and running it standalone!

I've decided to go DBW.
I have a harness and two pcms: (1st) serv no. 09354896
Hdw no. 16220610

(2nd) serv no. 12586242
Hdw no. 12583660

From what I've read the (1st) should work with DBW only. Do I have to use a certain tac module and pedal?

Mines a manual but shouldn't the 4l60e be the same size as a 700r4? From what I've read even the 4l80e fits w/o modifying the tranny tunnel.

I think the hard part is the torque arm that attaches the rear of the transmission to the rear axle, parallel to the driveshaft. You need to fabricate some kind of bracket so the existing torque arm will work with the 4L60E, or use the setup out of an LT1 C4. At least that's my understanding.

Discussion from 2006 here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-mount-c4.html

Yes the dreaded C-beam. I was going through some old threads and some shop had a custom bracket made for it.

I made a bracket to fit the TH400 in mine. Crude, but it works fine.

I just cut a few pieces of 1/4" plate in 1" x 6" strips, drilled holes and bolted them to the lower 2 and upper 2 bolts on the tailshaft housing. Made L brackets that go inside of the C beam and cover the 2 bolt holes in the beam, and then stick straight out of the side. The lower one actually bolts to the TH400 trans mount holes. Added a couple of pieces to connect the L brackets to the plates bolted to the tailshaft housing, welded it all up and bolted it back in. Stock driveshaft even works with a different yoke and conversion U joint.

I reused the L98 motor mounts with $35 adapter plates, and used a Spectra F-body pan (They're like $160 new). All stock truck accessories.

I'm going to use my 4+3 but I do have a low mile th400 for a back up.
Do you remember what yoke and U-joint was used?
I won't have ac either. Can you send a bunch of pictures to sean.k.byrd@gmail.com when you get a chance?

I used a TH400 yoke that was just on the shelf. No idea what it came out of.
1310 to 1330 conversion U-joint number 1-0134.

Is your radiator in the stock position? Engine didn't hit the steering on the drivers side? Did the alternator completely clear the hood? Your c4 doesnt have the bar that goes between the radiator and front of the engine-I'm guessing you removed it for clearance?QUOTE=JoeNova;19541999]Found some old pics

This isn't a stock radiator. It's a small RX7 radiator to make room for turbos.

Steering is fine. Power steering pump touches the plastic guard over the end of the shaft but doesn't hurt anything.
