Default CD changer support Monsoon CD head units - circuit board code

I wanted to use a Ipod2car or Isimple adapter to connect my ipod to the CD changer port. Most 1999 CD head units do not support the CD changer, including mine...

There were two different codes on the circuit board, forum member WhiteBird00 explained the difference in this thread:

Not supported:

Supported:

The GM9-AUX is an auxiliary input adapter that provides RCA jacks to connect any external auxiliary source (MP3 player, satellite radio, etc.). It will play music from an iPod but it can't control the iPod or charge its battery.

If your CD head unit doesn't support a changer then none of the adapters will work - iPod2Car, GM9-AUX, nor any others.
Now when I disassmbled my head unit I found this:

I am now using a tape head unit off a 1999, got it cheap on Ebay. It works fine with the Isimple (BestBuy $99).

Bottom line: it seems that code 8276A-1 is the ONLY one that works.... I got my hopes up because of that -2.....

That's unfortunate but thanks for the additional information.

...well.... it works fine with the tape unit. The sound is amazing, just like CD.

at least we have some good info compiled in this thread and with the keywords in the title it should be easy to find.

Bringing this back to life...

I pulled the Monsoon single CD HU from my 1999 Z28 and found this number "E-8276A-2".

Does anyone know if this will work? It seems to follow the numbering scheme of the 'Supported' circuit board seen above - maybe even a later release.

I don't know for sure but I would expect it would work. The A at the end of the number seems to be the determining factor.

That's odd, it has a build date of 4/20/99 which is prior to some others I've seen built 5/99 that still have the old, unsupported internals.

I guess I'll have to try someone's CD changer, that should do it.

Thank you for starting this thread originally and including the info and pics.

We had found in earlier threads that production dates don't always correspond to capabilities. Perhaps they had more than one production line and one got updated parts earlier than the others.

I was thinking perhaps my HU was serviced after its build date and they replaced the CD unit which contains the PCB.

I tried the CD changer from a 1997 Z28 and it powers up and checks the cartridge but the CD/AUX button does nothing.
