Default Who has had S60 problems???

I just got the money to get my S60 (finally)and am I guess second guessing myself with it. I see some of people having problems with there 9" and know alot more cars on the forum have 9"s as apposed to the S60. I have heard and feel it is stronger than the Moser 9" unless it's built to the hilt. I've also noticed that alot of the big turbo cars have S60's which is making me want to go in that direction. Any input would be nice with problems anyone has had with them, thanks guys.

i have a s60 in a 3rd gen. i love it. the installation took about 2.5 hours. thats pulling the original junk out and putting a new one in. when they say direct bolt in, strange means it. no problems at all. the rear is quiet and is very nice looking from the rear of the car. i have a locker with 4:11's. i say go with the S60.

the S60 is a great rearend, and yes, a direct bolt-in. it uses the bracketry that is stamped from the original AAM tooling. it is a super strong rearend, and is super heavy. 3 and 4 channel abs is available, and it does have the sway bar mounts welded on. a shorter driveshaft is required for sure.

i have a fabricated 9 inch that does not have any fittment issues and is a great deal. includes alot of features and is also a direct bolt-in. includes a chromemoly adjustable torque arm and applicable crossmember for your application, drain plug, sway bar brackets, relocator style lca brackets, brake line clips and hose mounts, and e-brake cable bracket(98-02) all as standard features at no extra charge. only 15 pounds heavier than the stock 10 bolt with a nodular iron case and is the same weight as the stock 10 bolt with an aluminum case. prices start at 2650.00 shipped.

I like my 60, and it came w the driveshaft for that price. Mosers prices lately have gone way up. Really shocked me. I'm a jeep guy 2 so it was a no brainer to go w the S60.

I didn't get it powder-coated and will have to paint it myself. I have some really really good red paint used for inside aircraft engine nacelles. Takes about 1000*C, so it should about do it. Got mine with 4.10's also, debated about moving to 3.73 though. I'm eventually going to spray the crap out of the car eventually when I get a shortblock, so I figured 4.10's in the long run.

What is the parasitic loss of the S60 compared to say the 9" or standard Strange 12 bolt?

I have been told by a reputable source that S60's can use 30 to 40 rwhp.

any firsthand knowledge?

It is a hair more than a 9" from what I have heard from Strange. The reason why is that the ring is bigger, but is capable of handling more power than the 9". The reason I'm getting one is because I plan on pushing 700+whp hopefully this season, if not next spring. I'm not risking a broken rear yet again. Nothing is bullet proof but I do plan on sidestepping my clutch at the line. I'll give up a few horses to know I can do that with out any fear ya know.
As for first hand experience, I'll know in a month or so.

bought my s60 used form a local guy. i was told it had 500-1000 miles in it, it looked new. got it for 1750 with a chromoly d/s and backing plates all set to bolt in. one of the best purchases i've made....a very stout rearend.

Plan on ordering one of these in the near future, I am biased too bc the jeep thing. Anyone gone from a 12 bolt or 9" rear to the S60?? Id like to hear opinions from these guys

Here are a few who have had problems. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...t=problems+s60
No matter what is made, sooner or later someone somewhere is going to have a problem with it, and a rear takes a lot of abuse. Bob

An article in gmhightech showed 3% loss in hp consistently on 3 diff cars. plus its much heavier than even a 9". IMHO unless your planning on going over 500 rwhp or you can get a good deal a 9" will work better.

With that said an s60 is much stronger but is alot louder too.

i have a 2000 ss convert. 6spd w strange driveshaft and s60 3:73 tru-trak, clunks on start off from light and in low rpms in 5th and 6th and pinion seals leaks like hell and a vibration around 70 - 75. I have a relocated ta and the car is dropped about an inch and a half. Already talked to strange they say clunking is normal. anyone care to differ??

My Tru-trac in my 10 bolt clunks a little, but my diff bearings are getting on there last leg and feel that it has a good part of that though. As long as I can launch harder than hell, it can clunk all it wants.
