how i might be an idiot, but i have microsoft photo editor and when i try to make it 500x150 pixels, it looks like a pen dot and how are all these people making signature pics with a huge picture, im lost

Well, I don't have Microsoft Photo Editor, but most photo programs have some sort of general "CROP" function. Nose around for that in the "EDIT" menu (or something similiar) and see if you can crop out a section that is the correct size. You may need to mess around with it to get everything in the photo. While you are at it, post up the picture/link here and I'll see what I can do with it if you still are having problems.
