Default 9's naturally aspirated

Never noticed this single digit forum before.....

2006 Z06 with stock short block and WCCH heads, BTR cam, 1 7/8" ARH headers and MSD intake. Stock exhaust with Cats and stock gear.

Best ET is:

1.28 60 ft
3.94 330 ft
6.19 1/8th et
110.30 mph
9.82 1/4 et
133.67 mph

Track was Royal Purple in Houston.

On that pass, motor was hot and died on the big end.... all other passes that night it ran 135 mph and has since run 137 mph, but didn't hook it up. Its good for 9.6 right now.... or was. That motor is out, new one going in.

Here is video of another pass same night.... this pass only managed a 1.31 60 ft.

Thanks.

1) RPM Transmission 4L65E Level 6. (Been great.... 600 passes over past 2 years, with zero problems)

2) Yank SS 4000 converter.... its loose, but it works.

3) At the time of the video and slips here, it was 3320 lbs. Its 3240 now, but no clean 1/4 mile passes at this weight.

I race 99% 1/8th mile.... hence, do not have a lot of 1/4 mile passes. Car of recent was running quicker 1/8ths vs above in much worse air.

hope this helps.

I'm a bracket racer.... not necessary to run an 80 or 400 for a naturally aspirated application such as mine. Plus, a little lighter and perhaps more efficient than those transmissions. If I was going to run Big boost or turn it into a Nitrous motor, I probably would have gone with an 80e.

The Nitrous and Turbo late model street/strip guys have trouble with me in the 1/8th due to my short times, but in the 1/4 mile or longer... I can't hang with a lot of them, some of them go around me fairly easily.

But, new motor will allow for a moderate shot if I decide too, so it'll be tougher for them.

Thru the 4l65e trans, going out of memory, it made 558 rwhp @ 6200 rpm and 522 ftlbs @ 5200 rpm. This is with the BTR stage 3 cam. 238/250 - .650/.630.

If I still had the T56, I think it would have been in that 580-590 rwhp area, but not sure, just guessing. (It is consistent with what similar set-ups have done with the manual trans)

I'll add, I don't like dyno's for proof of performance. Timeslip is my choice.

That is definitely moving out for that weight nod:
-I have a FLT Level 6 (it's been awesome as well)
-SS3600 Too tight...
In my car in sig...my best 60' is 1.46 at 3600+#'s

Just wondering because I am building this for my son...https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ld-thread.html and need to get a trans and converter. Thanks for the reveal

Converter is important for optimizing whatever power you have.... the SS 4000 I have is pretty darn aggressive. But, it works.... my car is optimized about as well as you can considering the low power by 2016 standards.

I recommend everybody put their gopro on the tach and speedo for a pass to see what its doing. (Or datalog I guess) Below, you can see the converter actually flashes up to around 5800 rpm on this day.... shifts at 6600 rpm and falls back to approximately 6100 rpm.

My motor makes its HP peak at 6250 rpm, but holds the power well up to 6600 rpm. Get to where your motor's HP is at as fast as you can.... and stay there. That is the key to going fast at whatever weight and power level you're at. My best 500 rpm HP window is from 6100-6600 rpm for best average HP over the cycle.... and that is where my motor spends 98% of the time at. Here is a video showing an 1/8th mile pass.

Thanks for that...that is the "loosest" 4000 I've ever seen (for a SS Yank)!!

The 4000 in the part name, as near as I can tell doesn't stand for anything, just a number.... but most converters will flash a good 400-800 rpm higher than the rated stall, depending on how much torque and power the motor has you put it behind.

I will say, mine is doing the same as others with the C6 Z06 auto conversion cars.... everybody that has done one using that converter 60's in the 1.2's.... one of them has run as quick as 1.22 ...... hence, I assume their converters are flashing that high too, but not entirely sure.

Its not for everybody.

I understand the "off the shelf" number and relative torque...my car is 540rwhp and 508rwtq. The SS3600 is more like a tight 3000. I have my window switch set at 3000 and nitrous still doesn't come on until about 10-15' out. Thinking about a custom FTI for my son's car in the 4000-4200 range (this one will be a track only 1/8th mile car). Thanks again for the input.

My first converter in this car was a PI vig 3600...... it didn't do bad, best 60 ft of 1.36 with it and was mostly around 1.38-1.40 Never really ran it in good air though, so might have been able to get it down to a 1.34 or thereabouts.

It flashed to 4200 rpm in my set-up.

Nice write-up on your car with the detailed info on how you got it to run that fast. I have that same cam in my ls7 but its in my 99 camaro. Mine t56 though but my dad had rpm to a 4l65e conversion on his 2010 camaro and he loves it, hes got quite a few passes on his as well.

I wasn't going to put the Auto in it, but I wasn't really driving the car, was just sitting in the garage and I had sold my old bracket racecar.... so decided it was my new bracket car and went ahead and did the conversion. Best modification I've done to the car..... have had so much fun with the car at the track these last few years it should be illegal.
