Wow, id hope 400 cubes would make 600+ hp.

"Without any real tuning and 36 degrees of total timing, the very first Motown LS engine cranked out 629 hp and 579 lb-ft on the initial pull."

not the route i'd take for sure. just use a front cover for a dist. ignition on an ls1 block. a lot less to buy $$$ wise.

If you're building a bigger inch motor, this would be an awesome route to take for a vehicle that's set up for a sbc already. Way cheaper to build an SBC bottom end than LSx, and you can get 330+cfm ls heads for dirt cheap.....that's bang for your buck! All the old accessories bolt up. Motor mounts don't change, oil pan fits, nothing changes trans wise. These blocks will eventually sell like hotcakes IMO.

How much cheaper do you think that this is going to be? The rods are the same price and so are your piston's. The crank price is hardly any different, the bearings are the only thing more expensive. Don't forget that you will have to use LSx piston's for your build. Then there are the negatives in regards to the custom camshaft; hybrid cam that will likely be 5 times more expensive and you lose out on the 55mm cam core . Then there comes the cost of the block, I bet you that it will retail for around $3000 vs. a LS2 block for $1000. To me the math just doesn't add up to any real benifits that I can see. As far as the trans issue is concerned, that is an easy fix.

I said bigger inch motor. Probably not worth it if you only want less than 400 cubes, but if you want 427+ci it's a more cost effective route because you're probably buying an aftermarket block already. The guy that wants to build a 427 SBC with an aftermarket block to go in his older vehicle can now build the shortblock for the same price or maybe a hair less (depending on what this block costs I suppose), and then be able to slap on huge flowing ls top-end for cheap......23* heads (or even 18* stuff) that flow what box-stock L92's flow would cost a FORTUNE in comparison. Then you don't have to buy any new front accessories, motor mounts, ignition system, special flexplate etc to make it work with what you already have.

You can still use a 55mm cam core with this block according to World.

The LSX block is $1950 with retro fit features already built into it. The cam journals are the same size as a LSx engine, but it has to use a sbc inner cam core for a 4" stroke to be able to clear.

i agree with all this, sbc is priced lower than ls stuff. if your vehicle is equipped with sbc then this would make an excellent choice, for 400+ci
if u just wanted a simple swap into older car, imo the 6.0 lq cant be beat

true but the motown block will use all sbc for the rotating assembly, even for pistons, just order all LH SBC pistons, for ls valve orientation.
the cam may be a concern, but the offset would be the less than 100$ sfi sbc flexplates, cheep oil pans, accesories, brackets, ud pulleys,
ignition, its way easier to tune with a timing light at the track, and distributor ignition is lower priced compared to standalone box or harness,
keeping in mind that the swapper wants 400+ci, then it is cost effective imo

436ci with l92 heads and super victor would be bad ****

Probably still be easier to use the OE styles SBC parts, a 396 is a great platform and the SBC heads are priced right. I dont think it would be worth it.

Even if you order "all LH piston's" it still won't work! SBC's use a 23* valve angle and the LSx heads are 15*/12*, the valves will hit the piston's with the larger cam needed for your 436 bad ****. If you think that that cam is going to be less than $500 your F'n crazy!

Cam isn't that big of a deal, you just have to run a SB2 cam core, which is a little pricey, but well worth it. The link I posted has a lot of good info.

has anyone priced a stroker crank for a sbc to go over 400 cubes? there isn't that much difference in the stroker cranks for ls engines. put a vic. jr. intake, carb, and like i said above a front mount dist. and front cover for the dist. on an ls motor. you may have about the same in all of this as you would that motown block. you would tune it just like a sbc except the dist. is in the front like a ford.

There was an LS 427 that jut cranked off 800.

You can also put a LS head on a 302 ford...

This block is for someone that already invest in a stout bottom end. Ls heads are way cheaper than trad sbc stuff. Worlds 427 hybrid has made more hp than a Warhawk with the same upper end. It makes 20 hp less than worlds Race 427 23*head motor with 13 to 1 with only 10 something to 1. They have a b13:1 hybrid block motor that make 800 hp NA>

sbc pistons relieves are also available in other degrees besides 23
i was refering to the ls valve orinetation, not the actual valve degree s
