AFR 195 vs. 210 on a 383
I am building my 383 and had originally planned on the 195's but came accross a killer deal on used 210's (both eliminators). They are pretty much brand new and already have the upgraded springs good to .600 for my cam. I want to know how going with these might affect ther engines performance. Will I be able to tell in the lower rpm's? Throttle response?
The rest of the combo;
RPM air gap ported and matched
pro systems carb
1 3/4 headers
Comp cams xr274r. solid roller 236/242 110
Comp mgnum roller rockers 1.6
So should I get em?

It is the solid roller version not HR. Thanks for the help guys. I'll let oyu know how she does. Does anyone have any experience with dr J. ported manifolds? They have an air gap flowing near 300 whick would be perfect for the heads.
I have a manual trans and 3:73 12 bolt posi so no tall. Should run well on the street!

I agree on the Dr. J manifold at 300cfm for those heads. Should give you the +15-20% flow or so that an intake should have over the heads so as not to decrease head flow. I've been wanting to try one myself. They will probably bump up your RPM though, have you seen this article:

I am tempted to run the comp xr280r instead of the xr274r. It is 6' larger on both at the same lift and lsa. I heard solid roller camms idle better. Would a 242/248 110 cam be too much? How much would this move my torque band up?

242/248 duration worked well in my friends 383 with a Vic. jr. intake and 6 speed trans. It MIGHT move the powerband a few hundred rpm higher if anything vs. the smaller cam you listed 236/242, both should work good... The Airgap might make it drive nice without bucking. I'd chose 210's for sure, however I'd make sure the Intake is matched to the port size of those heads. Nothing like paying for a ported intake that doesn't match the head port, ya know?...haha

What is the compression ratio?
I'll throw it in DD2000. I think I already have em both in there cause I was looking at what would happen versus my ported Dart200's. It isn't all that technical but it seems to make pretty good estimations for what it does take into account.

Will either be 10.5 or 11 CR. The Dr j ported intake flows right around where the heads do and is ported to match the same gaskets. I'm interested in what the computer numbers will be.

Ok, for all these I put compression at 10.5:1. The intake selected was a high-flow dual plane. Carb was 800cfm.
Also, the heads used were the Eliminator Comp series (as they are what I had already entered into the program, if you want the regular Eliminator series let me know and I can run that specific combo, I think the general results will hold true however.)

4) If you can run a solid roller, the program definitely likes it better...

Yeah, well like I said, DD2000 is not like Engine Analyzer Pro where you can really get into the details (CSA of intake runners, taper, inches, port flow etc) here you just select a manifold type and run with it. If you select single plane which I suppose the RPM somewhat acts like.
Using High-Flow single plane the power jumps to 547hp at 6500rpm.
Either way the comparisons are probably good enough, I'd say run the 210s and enjoy. Don't let the sim bother you, besides you'll be happier to beat the number than to fall short.
