Default building a 408 stroker

hey guys, i'm building a 408ci stroker, and i was wondering what a good cam would be to run?? my goal is only about 450bhp, mainly because any more than that and i'll have trouble with traction when i auto-x race.

any help would be appreciated

What is your intake and what do you run for tires (type and sizes)

I run 315 victoracers in rear and my SuperRam'd 383 with 500tq is overwhelming. I'm actually thinking a bigger cam/intake to pick up more up top and sacrifice some down low wouldn't be a bad thing.

Yeah, 255s will be pissed off if you try them. Haha.

345s on the other hand, especially in A6s. I'm jealous. Much stickier than the Victos.

What is the rest of the build?

engine wise i'm still at an indecision, other than going to a 408 i have now clue what else i want to run. i could run the stock GM Performance intake (which i'm pretty sure just sucks) and the Q-Jet that's on it.

for now, i'm just trying to find a used (but not needing a rebuild) T400 or 700R4. then i'll install a reverse manual valve body in it, and have some 3.42 posi gears thrown in out back.

eventually i'll find a decently priced T56 or TKO 6060 and swap it in. oh and a C5 IRS. in case you haven't noticed, i'm more into handling than anything else.

Remember... there's never too much engine, just not enough tire/car/driver... hehe

Maybe use a Comp Cams XR270HR.. 218/224 duration.. use a 1.6 rocker. 1600-5400rpm powrband..with a stroker, I bet it will be all washed up 5500rpm.. Lots of power under that peak. Dual Plane intake also.. .. man I feel bad.. I hate suggesting how to make less power... hahaha

You should see my 4500 stall/ powerglide trans in action with my 17" setup. I have V700 Victor Racers up front and 315/35/17 Nitto Drag Radials in the rear.. Koni Yellow shocks, Spohn Sways, cage... Works nicely.. haha Most people think I have a drag only car.. It is hard to not flash the converter and spin the tires and I would recommend a really tight converter if you want more throttle control. I have some control but only because my PG's first gear goes to 75+ mph. Goodluck!

I don't know the 219/219 LPE cam does well in 383s for autocross but the show is over around 5.5k. Maybe something in the 224 to 230 range if you really want to keep that torquey side down low without hitting a wall too soon.

the problem i'd have with running either of those cams, i can't have duration of 220 or over (219 would be a little too close for comfort for me) or else i will be taking chunks out of the cam with the connecting rods (408's are a 4" stroke and 4.030" bore)
