Tried looking into Scoggin-Dickey? You can pick up some vortec heads for a fair price brand new. I've seen more than a few people making well over 400-450 rwhp on vortec heads.

It will run pretty good, make tons of torque but as stated, will not be a top end screamer.

Porting will help, but they are limited t what they can do, if it is the right price then i say port them, but usually the price is steep and the price is usually high enough to have just spent a tad more to get some aftermarket heads. Patriot has some great heads for a decent price.

My understanding is that these heads can be VERY good when properly ported. Lingenfelter has managed to get some very impressive results with these heads. They may be RPM limited, but the low RPM velocity seems to be very impressive with these heads, which should make them very, very fun on a high torque street car.

I've got a warmed over L98 in my 91 Corvette, and to be honest, it's a lot more fun than my friend's 2010 LS3 Grand Sport. It's nowhere near as fast at the track, but on the street it's an animal. With an extra 33 cubic inches, it can only be better.

I believe David Vizard put it like this..."if you have these heads already, use them. If you don't, don't spend money trying to get them". I think they can work with your setup. I would tighten up the LSA on the cam (maybe around 108) and make sure your REAL compression is around 10.5:1.
