Default Wierd starting problem; Help!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok guys; I am frustrated and need help!

I am working on my Dad's 67 camaro; he blew the 400 small block up and I put a used 350 and a used 700r4 back in it. I am ready to start it but when I do the starter spins at normal speed for about 1 revolution then spins really really slow. It is not moving quick enough to start.

I have tried a new starter; new battery (and a battery charger), new battery cables, I removed the plug wires to make sure it wasn't a timing issue, added an extra ground, cleaned to starter mounting surface, and tried to jump the starter at the solenoid.

I literally can't figure out where to go next. My only thought is that there may be a problem witht he eninge; but i don't understand why it gets one quick turn if that was the case....

Anyone have any ideas??????????
Thanks,
Brian

Did the torque converter 'plug' into the transmission correctly?

Or did you have to 'pull' the bell housing up to the engine by tightening the bell housing bolts? If you did, the converter is 'crushing' the tranny pump, binding.

Update! Fixed the problem today; the engine was slightly out of time. I guess it was just enough out to fight the engine from turning over. I put it on TDC and it was 90 degrees off; reset distributor and it fired right off..... Such an easy fix; but a lot of hair was lost trying to figure it out.! lol
