Default 472 or LQ9 for my 68 Cadillac Deville Coupe

After years of thinking about it, finally pulled the trigger.

I bought a 1968 Cadillac Deville Coupe.

So...what to do with it?

  • Do I keep the 472 and modify it
  • drop and LQ9 in it.

Would love to hear what others think.

If you want "originality" stick with the caddy 472. If you want drivability and parts availability go LS all your conversion stuff will have to be custom, but once made your good to go.

The big engine will do what it was meant to do. Get that land tank rolling. I say keep the cubes and make that thing torque like it should.

I agree. I ran a 500 Caddy in my Jeep for over 10 years. Loved the motor. Here was the set up

76...500 caddy
Performer intake
800 q jet...built by the CarbShop
Comp cam...218/218...460/460...112
Freshed up heads...comp springs
HV water pump
1 7/8 Sanderson headers

I know this is an old post, but I say Cadillac all the way and convert it to a TBI system off a 454 or Marine 454/502 engine if you want extra driveability. Q-Jet fed 472/500 CID Cadillac is a tough engine to beat for low-midrange torque and they actually do quite well on gas.
