Question about BBC 168 tooth flexplate and torque converters
I am installing a zz454 big block in my nova with a 4L80E transmission. I finally have collected all of the pieces and I noticed that the 6-bolt pattern in the ZZ454 flexplate is staggered and the torque converter bolt pattern is not.
Only 3 of the 6 torque converter bolts line up to the flexplate. Is this normal? Did they do a staggered pattern in the flexplate so it would support only 3 bolts from both torque converter patterns?
Is 3 bolts OK? It's a stock ZZ454 for now, rated ~ 460HP. May get some upgrades later.

see in the comments below, they say only 3 bolts should be used when installing a 4L80e

I can't find an externally balanced flexplate that has all 6 in the right spot.

This is correct. That flexplate has both the large (th400/4l80) pattern and small (th350/700r4/4l60) pattern. You only need to use the 3 that line up with your converter
