I brought the Chevelle with the ZZ502 home Friday.
First impressions:
The fuel pump is hella loud and draws beaucoup juice to run.
It's traction challenged even with 14" rubber on the ground.
The voltage level is around 13 volts and arching was noted on the alternator mount.
It acts like it's missfiring sometimes at night with the lights on, low voltage?
It's rude, crude and obnoxious and sets off car alarms when I drive by parking lots.
It wouldn't beat my '03 Cobra just yet but can be turned WAY up.

You're talking about a tubbed chevelle with 14" wide tires? Just seems that there are some bugs to work out in order to get it going good. As for setting off the car alarms, what do you expect from a big block ?

It ain't tubbed yet. It has MT Sportmans 28/12.5-15's that have 14" wide tread. I'm picking up some 31/16.5-15's bigs and skinnys on Centerlines today. Those thing have right at 18" wide treads on 'em but they won't fit under the wheelwells yet. I gotta tub, harness and cage this thing. Yeah, ya should've seen the Ricer kids looking at the size of each individual Hooker tube. They're almost as big as their stock exhaust.

Sportsman regular tires are hard and will not hook very well. Sportsman Pros are great tires for a street/strip car in the 1.6 60 foor range or higher. Much beyond that and I agree that E.T. Streets are the way to go for a streetable tire.

Hmm, turns out they're Sportsman Pros. It still doesn't help as the stall flashes at 3K and she spins through 1st and half of 2nd from a dig. Time for the QTP's to go on.

DON'T TUB IT! aaahhh
i run a fast street '70 chevelle that pulls 1.50 60 ft. on a 29x10 et drag. it hooks, plus IMO the sleeper look is priceless. PS the fastest it's been is 9.92@137 all motor with 3800lb raceweight. anybody can make a tubbed car hook!

stevewix,
What are ya running for suspension and rubber? I'd rather not tub it and would be satisfied with 9's. Nevermind, ET Streets huh? What size? Give me some details on this beast of yours, drivetrain, Dyno results etc..

Ok, took it to the Dyno yesterday and she put down 427 / 455 first pass. The guys yanked the carb, rejetted it, change the acelerator pump spring etc. and we went again. She maxed out at 437 / 460 while spinning on the Dyno. We tried changing tire pressure but still had a big wobble in the graph on all runs. Man that TH400 is eating a lot of power. They did get the A/F dead on and got rid of a nasty hesitation it had. I got a fresh pair of QTP's to put on today so maybe I can sneak back up there for another run or two. They figure she's making about 580 at the crank. Time for a manual shift valve body I guess.
