Default whats up with compression

ive heard alot about 350 heads being bad on a 305, why is that bad? me and a few friends of mine can get 350 heads really easy for cheap, we dont have the money or the tools for a 350 so we want to stay with the 305.

can somebody clue me in on compression and is it okay to use the vortec heads on the 305

i think the 305 heads are smaller combustion chambers around 58cc where the 350 heads are 64cc's im not real sure on the vortech heads though .

I think the 350 vortec heads are 64cc chambers. I also think there was 305 vortec motors available, you could check on that. The 305 heads are alot smaller chambers and with 350 heads you would be losing compression and compression helps make power. It would probably cost the same to rebuild a 305 or 350 so I would go with the bigger 350 and vortec heads.

the vortech 350 heads should be fine on it other than loosing some compression, but keep in mind with a vortech head, you have to run a intake designed for vortech heads, because the bolt pattern for the intake is diffrent on those heads.

okay i can run vortec heads on the 305 without doing damage or losing too much power?

also i think chevy makes vortec heads with 58cc champer which is my size i think would it be better to go with those?
